1G K&N Air filter fitting?

Hi,

The K&N E-2875 is listed as fitting the Ecliose GS 1991. However it's description is round, whereas the actual air can and current filter is more of a slight oval, (see pic). So will this actually fit?

The best way to know is to mount it up and see. It's not that big of a job. As long as the pipe inlet is the same size on the filter.

KN 2875 is a direct fit. It's "round" if I recall.

Pretty sure its just listing it as "round" as opposed to the flat/square style air filters. But it will fit. My car came with one when I bought it.

This is a factory K&N replacement filter. It's not an aftermarket cone style. But I think the OP has a pic of his current filter and is asking before buying the K&N I believe.

Another note to the OP is that you'll have to clean & oil the filter pretty often because with a MAF set-up you can't heavily oil the filter because if you over-oil it it'll possibly get oil on the MAF sensor cause issues with the readings

I'm not sure this is true for a DSM. We don't use a hotwire style MAF. This is definately true for cars that do use a hotwire MAF. The commercial MAF cleaners you can buy at autoparts stores say specifically do not use on Karmann Vortex MAFs. I have never had to clean a DSM MAF and I've oiled my filter many times.

Well that's good to know. I've been cleaning and oiling every oil change. Guess I'll start using more oil and try doing it once a year. Be nice to only have the wife yell at me once a year for washing it in the bath tub. HAHA

I should have said cleaned and oiled. I don't add additional oil. Point being I don't do anything special. Just folllowed KN directions.
