i have 2 1/4 off the turbo for about 8 inches put a flex pipe in then its 2 3/4 all the way back until the flowmaster Muffler. Doesnt sound bad not really ricey but it does have a bit of a cackle when off the throttle. Have any of you all done this?
 
I not sure when you put your flex pipe but 8 in. it too long and it bent at a high degree it will blow.

Well I myself didnt do it the Exhaust shop did it and put it were the stock one was.
 
dude that does not sound like it is a good flowing exhaust...save your money and get a new one....
 
That crackling noise is the combination of ignition timing and A/F ratio. When the coolant is at less than normal operating temp the AFR is richer to prevent stalling, IE: the same effect as a choke in a carburetted engine. When you release the throttle fuel flow is shut off until the engine enters the RPM range controlled by the idle system at which point fuel flow starts and this richer mixture ignites in the exhaust system and you hear the popping. The engine could be tuned to do this all the time by raising the RPM at which fuel flow begins on coastdown, enriching the mixture, and retarding the timing. However this would increase emissions substantially with no benefit other than the amusement factor so I doubt any tuner would do it.
 
It idles fine 800 rpms say i hop on the gas and run it hard then let the engine slow down its not a back fire not a loud cackle its hard to explain. I will record it tomarrow and post it. I had 2 1/2 on my audi and it did the same thing no big deal.
 
Where's your wastegate going? Venting to atmosphere or? Did you run a straight pipe right off the O2 sensor housing? and skipped the downpipe that way? Is the bend from the turbo in the flexsection? If that is the case it will fail. Flex sections are meant for only a few degrees of articulation. To flex from the torque of the motor. Maybe post a pic as well as a video?
 
Its basically the stock set up but bigger all the way thru. with the only muffler (flowmaster) on the back of the car. So Im not worried about it failing.

I hope it dont rain tomarrow so I can rinse the car off and shine the wheels and get good video. That is all I want for my birthday.
 
well i think i smoked my clutch. It slipped the whole time during the film that im going to post and puffed some smoke. its weird it will hold if the clutch is warm but when its cold it slips. hmmm

I'd say that the popping is from the increased back pressure due to the Flowmaster muffler. I don't know that they make a straight through muffler, which is what you need. That muffler will only hurt your performance.
 
Take an engine bay shot and an undercarriage shot. Ya teased us and then let us down.

Not taking a engine bay shot until i get her all cleaned up and the new cupler (its jimmy riggeed ) but its working right now until mine comes in the mail on monday

how much will a afc cost me?
