hey wassup guys.....i just bought myself a 1997 Silver GSX and this is my first turbo AWD car that i own. My plans for this car is to swap the engine cuz the mileage is really high--130k-- so im gonna swap with it a 6bolt engine. Im not planning to do anything to the engine until i swap the motor. But as far as modding goes, what can i do now that i dont need to wait for the swap, beside looks? Basically, can i do anything now that can be interchange or wont affect the swap?

Im also planning to get 6bolt flywheel with the 6bolt engine too. My other question is what i can buy now that i could install when im doing the swap?....im planning to do most of my mods at once. Anything to make is easier so that i dont have to do it later.

There is more to the plan than i have for this car but im hoping to make 12s or 11s after im done with my plan.

congrats on the purchase i would hit up the tech guide on this site it really shows a good list of what to do...i did the normal rice mods when i first got mine...Apexi N1 Exhaust (no cat) w/ GT Downpipe then Blitz BOV and K&N Filter w/ the filter box mod hope you like your car and remember to be careful with it cause they like to break

All mods at once is great if you have the cash.. but if your engine is in great shape hold off on the swap for awhile.. I'd even put a little into the 7 bolt to get you to the point where you're ready for a swap: ARP studs, head gasket, flywheel. If you're just worried about crankwalk you could mod and keep the head: porting, cams, springs, retainers.

Get your suspension out of the way -
Springs, shocks/struts, camber kit, sway bars.

Gauges -
Boost gauge, fuel pressure gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, wideband O2 sensor & gauge, exhaust gas temp gauge.

Fuel system & datalogger -
Fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, DSM Link, laptop for DSM Link.

Transmission -
TRE/Shep tranny, clutch, flywheel.

Intake system, turbo, & exhaust together -
Front mount intercooler & pipes, blow off valve, boost controller, GM MAF, MAFT, intake pipe, air filter, bored/larger throttle body, sheet metal intake manifold.
Turbo of your choice, exhaust manifold, external wastegate (if needed), O2 housing, downpipe, hi-flow cat/race pipe, cat-back exhaust.

Misc -
Short shifter & bushings, Prothane motor & suspension mounts, wheels & tires.

After that $10-20k.. you're ready for your 6 bolt engine rebuild.

i would like to throw my .02 cents on here before he goes by some of this stuff

1st the 1gen head has bigger ports...why work on a head that is less than what he would be getting stock

2nd if you have done ANY research in short shifters on the DSM you will notice quite a few problems.. no problems with my tranny a little under 5,000 miles after my B&M 2nd synco starts to go out then 3rd then 5th and reverse..coincidence?

IMHO first mod you need to do as a new to DSM owner is read...read all you can and supporting mods first!

like it says use the tech guide. its laid out for you in a great easy to find way. as for swappable mods from this engine to your six bolt. anything but clutches is going to swap so do whatever and have a great time. be careful because once you mod you lose all reliability the car "had"

Dont get my wrong guys..i did read the tech guide but my main question is are the parts interchangeable between 6bolts and 7bolts....which wasnt covered. So basically i can mod everything except for the clutch and they will work fine after the swap? thanx for answering guys. I used to own a Celica GT"S"..it was fun but i want an upgrade and i happen to like eclipses (old ones anyway) and i found a really good deal with this one. I know im gonna have alot of fun getting parts for this and see the results.

everything is interchangeable on the tech guide...i beileve the only differnce is that stage 1 on a 2nd gen is to get a 1st gen turbo..

Everything is swappable except flywheels and engine parts excluding head parts(cams, valves, springs, retainers) As far as clutches are concerned, they are interchangeable between all turbo dsms from 89-99, awd and fwd included.

sweet...ill post up more questions when i need some helps....thanx im gonna try to buy stuff now. Any suggestion on the best sites to buy mods listed? beside the sponsors on this site? any where cheap and reliable?

personaly with my experience you cant have cheap and reliable sorry

but dont forget ebay watch for scams and know what your looking for

true K&N filter 10 bucks shipped
Apex-i Twin Chamber 100 shipped

all off ebay but i buy all my pipes from dejontool fitmit is great and its the color i want with no additional cost i like them alot always gotten here fast.

Congratulations on the car! Were glad to have you! However; the rules on this board are clear. Research before you post questions. There are several lists of what to do in stages to modify your car, also plenty of fourms to search as well. I suggest reading them and doing your research before posting here so you don't get banned from this site.

here is a link to the sticky on this forum to help get you started in the right direction

Good Luck with your new ride!

not everything is interchangeable, id say go with exaust, fuel, and intake (except the intake manifold, since the 2g has smaller ports, wait til you have a 1g head with the larger ports and get a 1g sheet metal intake manifold) you can also upgrade your clutch, turbo, suspension, and you could upgrade to a 1g head and then upgrade the cams and valves, and then all you would need for a 6 bolt would be the short block, which would be cheaper... personally if i knew i was going to replace the block i would do that first since its the most expensive part.... or maybe a nice carbon fiber driveshaft....LOL...

sorry..well im reading the tech guide cuz my first question was answered so now i can go ahead and start getting the stuff listed without worrying about anything.
