Just picked the car up after having the Gr-2s put in. OMG it feels so much better. I think a big part of it comes from the fact that my stockers were so blown, it's like night and day now. The shift quality has actually been the biggest change; I'm not doing a nose dive into the ground and being thrown forward anymore when I let off the gas. It also feels like its on rails when I'm accelerating out of corners. It's raining right now so I haven't had a chance to really get on it, but I can already feel a big difference. The only real problem I have is that I only had the fronts done, and since the back end is still sagging I had to readjust my seat so I could see over the hood. That and it's a little rougher going over bumps, but I think they just need some time to break in a little bit, or for me to get used to it.
All in all I love em, and can't wait till I can afford the rears, too.

I got GR-2's on my ride as well. They run well. I would have prefered to get the AGX's but did not have the dead presidents.

Besides GR-2's are a damn good shock, even you guys cannot deny that!

Um, yes, I can. It's a slight upgrade on stock shocks ... so slight that these are what a Mitsu dealer will put on your car when you need your stock shocks replaced. They do not have enough rebound damping to control anything stiffer than stock shocks, they are as prone to failure as stock shocks, and the bodies are as long as stock, so they are highly inappropriate for anything more than a 1" drop, if that.

On the deeper issue of you mentioning a certain vendor in just about every post, I have two complaints. First, it is seriously uncool to do this without admitting -- long before now -- that you have a relationship with that vendor (even if it is through a relative, but especially if it's through a relative with whom you still live). Second, the purpose of this forum is to discuss suspension mods, as in which ones work and why they work. If someone comes out and point blank asks "where can I get part X cheap?" then, OK, go ahead and plug a certain vendor, but you don't do that. Instead, you plug the vendor in threads that were only about performance.

For these reasons, I've suggested to the Mods that your account be frozen. You have provided no information that 100 other people couldn't also provide, you have made statements that are demonstrably false (such as the idea that GR-2s are good shocks), and you have repeatedly injected ads where they don't belong.

Well like I said, if you do not like the GR-2's, then go with AGX's! Tokico's are good as well too. Just depends on the needs of your car.

I am new to the whole forum thing, so I was wondering, What is the big deal if he does work for Cox? Let the man do what he wants to do. Just ignore him. He answered the guys questions so what is the problem?

I wouldn't have half the problem if he were correct as often as he is wrong. In this thread alone he has said two things that are patently ridiculous: that GR-2s are good and that Konis are over-priced. Elsewhere his batting average isn't much better. And because many members aren't so great about searching before posting a question, his incorrect answers to old questions could very well mis-lead people. And some of us are rather tired of answering old questions; we'd rather that no replies to a thread asking an old question act as a motivator for people to run a quick search.

Jenn, if all were allowed to post in the manner that Philly has this board would be full of useless and mostly incorrect information. Plus there is a conflict of interest if Philly is related to people involved in Cox. The information posted to this site is supposed to be unbiased and objective. That statement about Konis being overpriced, do you have personal experience to back that up? Only post if you have the personal experience to make these kind of statements. I had a set of AGX on my 240 and thought they were crap, there's nothing special about Tokiko blues if those are what you're refering to, and GR-2s are pretty much the bottom of the barrel.

Jenn, the main problem is that vendors are not allowed to mention the products they sell or quote pricing in our forums. It's considered spam. We've cleaned the thread up a little bit to help get rid of the spam and the off topic posts that talk make reference to Phillyblunt.

Please get back on topic.

Back on topic -

I have a pair of GR-2's on the front of my car right now with my Ground Control coilovers. I bought them as temporary replacements since my AGX's went out on me (worn bump stops gave way and they bottomed out one too many times) and I didn't have the money for Konis at the time. They are not a real performance shock and cannot handle a lowered car. They will end up making your car float after a while as they wear out, just like your stock shocks did - it's happening on my car after only a year. They'll feel like a huge improvement over the worn stock shocks, but if you lower your car (or plan to), then I'd suggest either the AGX or the Koni. The Koni is the only shock available for our cars that has shorter travel which is needed for cars that are lowered. I plan on getting a pair of Konis for the front and keeping my AGXs on the rear for now. The AGXs are adjustable from under the car in the rear, as where the Konis need to be taken off the car to adjust.

If you're serious about having a car that handles like it's supposed to, go with the Konis and spend the money once. If you can't afford them, at least get the AGXs. If you buy the GR-2s, you need to understand that you've just replaced your stock shock with basically the same thing, and that your car won't handle any better - and if it does "seem" to handle better, it's all due to the stiffer spring, and not the shock - or because your old shocks were so wasted that the GR-2 seems like an improvement. Shocks need to be matched to the spring rates you're using in order to perform at an optimum level - which is why true coilovers like Tein and JIC tend to be the best option, though a little pricey and sometimes a little stiffer than some would like for the street.

Would you say that AGXs have a good balance of ride quality and handling? I was really looking into those for a 1G with the Eibach prokit. They'll handle the drop and not blow out early will they? Would you say the AGXs would be a good match for the prokit?

FYI Eibach and KYB in the late nineties had a business deal in which Eibach worked hand and hand with KYB AGX to put some packages together. KYB GR-2's and the AGX's are GOOD through a 2 inch lower. Any more and you will be putting too much stress on the shock not too mention void the KYB warranty. Which by the way is lifetime. Still Eibach and AGX's are like brother and sister.

Do KYB AGX's have lifetime warranties? Also, is this with the company you purchased it from or, KYB? I was wondering, because I want to buy them from ebay, since ebay always has the cheapest prices. If it's with KYB, I can just send them in when they break, right?

Please be sure to make it clear that you are only talking about 1Gs. If you drop a 2G by 2" with GR-2s or AGXs, the ride would be unbearable.

ps. if you could provide some reference for the Eibach/KYB partnership, that would be nice; it sounds interesting and I've never of this before ... thanks

Jtoby,

If you locate an old KYB catalog it offers AGX's and Eibach springs as a package. I will add that I don't recall it stating what Eibach springs or how much of a drop in the description.
