So I'm new to the DSM world! I have my 95 TSI AWD coming from Las Vegas (I live in Ohio). I just got a Borg Warner s256. I wanted to know what kind of fuel set up I should look at getting? Also what exhaust and FMIC I should look for?

Hey Mikey, I'm also new to the DSM world and also just got a 95 TSI. From the reading and research I've been doing, seems that we have a ton of options. I'll post a few links below that helped me out. First, maintenance, then make a horsepower goal, then supporting Mods, and finally build towards your goal. I can't find the link, but somewhere on this forum, there's a thread saying how much air you need to flow to hit a certain HP. For example: X lbs./min = X HP. The way I'm going about it is, making a horsepower goal, find the airflow needed, pick a turbo accordingly, and then a fuel system to support it comfortably (in case of a future change of plans), and then applying supporting Mods.

Here's a great place to start

So others can help you guys, and welcome, fill out a profile for your car. :thumb:

Good that you are doing the maintenance first as that is what is always suggested. Good luck and happy DSMing.

Which one? And did you ever decide on a fuel and FMIC set up? Also just curious, what's your goals and reasoning for the turbo you chose?
Im not sure about what fuel I want to run because E85 in Ohio is not always E85! I got this turbo because a friend said it makes great power! I'm going for 500-550 WHP. What would you say I should go with in fuel?

Depends on how much money you have and what fuel you will use. If you use e85, you'll to need much larger injectors as e85 requires a larger volume to be sprayed into the cylinder. Something that would cover all bases would be the FIC hi-z 1650s. They aren't cheap though.

Okay what if I ran race fuel?

I'm still very new at this, but have done a great deal of reading and spent too much money figuring things out. Tuning would be my very first thing I did if I could start Over. I am using ecm link v3 in one car and h8 with ecu flash in my other. I don't think I would install that turbo without tuning in mind. I bought the srs full exhaust 3" off eBay and it fit perfectly. I think my dp was $149 and $199 for the cat back. I used a Wally 190 for pump because I didn't want to go with aftermarket fpr, but a 255 might be better for you. Injectors you might as well buy big once, I went evo 560 but I'm running a small 16g and got them for very cheap. If you hunt your parts from the classified section here you can find what you need from other members, I have several times and can only say great things. It's time consuming but much more budget friendly. I was too impatient and bought some stuff new which looking back was stupid. There's a few members that can hook you up with what you need. I have no option yet for a fmic as I am running my smic still but from reading vrsf is a great route and priced great. I'm happy to help if I can just ask. Your part of the best tuning community on the net! Welcome and happy dsming

Thanks for all the help! I planed on getting everything I needed before putting this turbo on! I have done a lot of reading and it seams this thing should make 550 at the wheels with ease if done right. I don't want to rush into it before I know whats going on so I'm looking for all the info I can get my hands on!!!!

Hey Mikey, it sounds like your car will need a lot of work before you could run a s256. My suggestion is to not start building your car around that turbo, but instead build from the foundation up. For example, fix any problems that you have and consider replacing all the old chassis bushings and such. You'll be surprised at just how much stuff you'll need to replace even on a nice car.

Be careful, a lot of people start from day 1 building a 600hp car, and they wind prolonging their build so long that they never get to enjoy it and wind up frustrated and part it out (run-on sentence?). I'd consider selling the turbo (probably to me for pennies on the dollar) and focus your resources on restoring the car.

The bushings have been replaced! I ordered the timing belt and water pump. I'll be doing a full tune up asap. The turbo won't be going on tell the winter. I'll be doing a lot to the car long before the winter hits.

What are you guys referring to with the chassis bushings? Never heard of that.
Also since this is a "new to..." thread, I have been searching and searching for Evo 3 16g specs and measurements but can't seem to find any consistent information and sometimes I struggle to find links that are even still working. Unfortunately seems we have 20+ year old cars that are far past their peak of attention and a lot of links I find are out of date.

The suspension has rubber bushings from the factory. I replaced those with polyurethane ones.

So the car just got in from Las Vegas and it has NO rust at ALL ! The under side of the car still looks new ! I'm really excited!!

Post some pictures of the car.

I would start with maintenance on the car before throwing a lot of power at it. These cars tend to be neglected when it comes to maintenance as you can makes these cars fast for cheap.
