As of this past weekend i got my hands on a punishment racing short rout Front mount Intercooler kit, off of craigslist. $for 250 i got the FMIC and he even installed it for me. Install was kinda a Pain due to A/C and ABS.

How do i Check the code on my car other than with an ohmmeter?

I know I walked into one place and they said they couldn't read my car since Eagle Talon wasn't listed. I told him to set it to the Eclipse and give it to me. Worked fine.

with bad mpg and idle issues you should deff. check for boost leaks and possibly huge vacum leaks

FMIC is looking good, hopefully you get all your problems sorted out! I was having fairly bad gas mileage until I checked for boost leaks. It helped me out quite a bit.

Yeah, I agree. With that 250 you spent on a front mount, your car could have been running top notch. Use a volt meter, and test the last two pins that are right next to each other. I thin its #8, and #16. Watch the pulses the first pulse will tell you its in diagnostic mode, then it will repeat the code three times then if theres another one it'll move on to that code.

seriously you could have bought a pda, downloaded MMCd, and made a cord, still have had 200 dollars left to fix the car with a nice logger.

Neither Autozoo nor Advance auto have the diagnostics tool to connect to an obd1 car. You have to have an obd2 car for them to check your codes. They tell you that right on the big ad on the window, too.

You have a boost leak. Either the FMIC install doesn't have the clamps tight enough. Or you have a leak that's been there the whole time.

Quit buyin parts and buy a volt meter and read that code. read the vfaq it tells you how.

then check for boost/vacuum leaks, ignition timing, and cam timing.

all simple and easy things to check that could add to the problem.

hey man to me it sounds like you have some timing issues. have you checked your base timing? or even you maf? or ecu?

I bought my ohmeter from harbor freight for $4. Add in the batteries from the TV remote and voila! CEL checker.

Although my guess is o2 sensor. Boost leaks will only make you run rich when in boost, when in vacuum (cruise/idle) a boost leak will make your car run lean.

An o2 sensor won't make him run rough all the time. The ecu is wonderful it just bumps over to open loop and ignores it. There's a relatively wide range of a/f ratios that idle and drive great with pumpgas and light throttle. But he says his car runs like crap. A maf reading the incorrect amount of air would cause this. This means a hole in the intake pipe or a boost leak.

How would a boost leak explain 12mpg though?

My bet is one or a combo of the following:

Bad MAF
ECU crapped out
Bad o2 sensor
Boost Leaks
Injectors


Check your CEL. Seriously.

check the codes. For sure, one time I turned the ignition on, and cranked the engine over. When I checked the codes later, I had like 4-5 codes from the MAF not being plugged in.

First off I'd have got a can of terminal cleaner and some electronic grease.
