Anyone in here have any connections at John Deere? I'm dealing with an engine failure on a sub-200 hour John Deere 1025R sub-compact tractor due to what my tractor mechanic confirmed is a design flaw. Had nothing to do with misuse or neglect. I've found many other 1025R owners who have dealt with this issue, yet strangely enough, JD hasn't issued a recall for it. However, they DID make a retrofit bracket kit that remedies the situation available.

Read about the whole situation here: https://johndeere1025rproblems.com/

PM me if you have anyone I can reach out to. Thanks!

Moms neighbor across the street (out in the country) WAS a head mechanic at John Deere but retired last year I think. I will ask him the next time I am around and see him. Ill print your 1025 problem sheet out and show it to him and see what he has to say Chris. I am not sure when I will see him but will make a point to. I can even give mom a copy of the printout you posted and have her let him look at it since he rents our pasture for his cattle after my dad passed away and is at moms house every day.

If it's not much trouble, that would be awesome Marty. I really doubt JD will offer to help, but you know, it's really about the principle of it all. This situation has put our family in a really bad spot. It rubs me the wrong way knowing that they could have addressed this and didn't.

That's pretty interesting. Looking at pics of the basic Yanmar 3TNV80F, those 3 bolts through the valve cover aren't there. Whoever added them (John Deere apparently) - bad idea.
Stuff happens even at good companies. I was at Stemco when they invented the "flat venturi" muffler. Bad idea. But they were all replaced on warranty and/or recall, as far as I know.
Same basic problem though. Vibration, fatigue cracking after some period of time, failure.

Yeah, when it's a nice little $10,000 engine that gets ruined, that's a very bad deal if they can't cover it for you.

The studs in the valve cover are OEM on John Deere tractors from like 2015 through 2018 or something like that. They revised the design after they started offering a retrofit kit when too many owners complained of the air filter bracket rattling loose, and some engine failures due to cracked valve covers. They were giving away those kits up until earlier this year.

For some reason, I have a feeling JD might end up being more concerned about the domain name I chose for that website, more-so than doing what's right and trying to help me resolve the issue. Well, if they are, then I'll document that too. :)

That’s hilarious actually. Be sure to spread that link on social media. They usually don’t like that either.

In anticipation of JD's legal team contacting me about the domain name, I changed the domain to https://www.1025Rtractorproblems.com

From what I've gathered, JD has replaced over a half a dozen engines over this failure that I can find. Maybe even more since not everyone has posted about their failures online. They're doing it on a case by case basis. Hopefully they'll do right by me. Though companies always try to get out of a warranty claim when it's not the original owner. We'll see.
