Joe P MBC questions

Hey guys I just got a Joe P MBC, and I got a question. When you take it out of the bag, what boost level is it set at? I was told that you can just throw it on, and it wont effect anything because you can never decrease boost, and its fine untill you turn the knob. Also it says clockwise to increase boost and counterclockwise to decrease it, is that true? Because eventully the set screw just falls out the back, so when do you know when its low enough?

Check to make sure that the screw is backed out as far as it can go. (Without falling out)

Then test drive it and screw it in a little at a time to find the spot where you want it.

Remember...out is less boost, screwing it in...is more boost.

Ok, I called the shop I got it from last night, and he told me that it didnt matter where it was screwed in, it only increases boost when you screw it in after that. Obviously thats not the case...

Sounds like they are assuming that they are all shipped in a "fully backed out" setting. That may be the case... it would make sense for them to be sent out like that just for safety. Anyways, the previous advice is exactly right.

Get a Mityvac with the pressure/vacuum option, hook it up to the MBC, and fiddle. It'll show you how fussy an MBC can be to get to a certain number.
You turn the knob in to increase boost.
A pressure/vacuum Mityvac goes for about $40 online. A lot less than engine repair.
