JDM transmission?

I was thinking of buying a JDM transmission. The question I have is will it bolt up right on my 7 bolt 4g63t? I found a company on the net that deals with JDM engines and tranies and all he wants for one is 600 shipped. Sound like a good deal? I am currently buying all the parts to do a full Auto to Manual swap in my 97 GST. Let me know. Thanks Brian

I cant find if he has a link. He has a lot of listings on ebay for JDM motors. Japanese_star_motor is his name on ebay. He doesnt have a posting for a FWD trany but i emailed him and he said he had one in stock.

the majority of JDM engines or trannies are 1G's- i know that they wont even bolt to a stock 1G without the JDM transfer case- due to fitment issues- USDM- 23mm, JDM- 24mm, it may not seem like much- but a 1mm leak is extensive damage waiting too happen
- a 1G tranny will also not bolt up to a 2G without ANY modification- i have not done this, but i know it is not a direct swap- your only possiblility is an evo1-3 ( very unlikley, far more than $600)- also- i still think that fitment and mounting issues arise- i wouls tick to either a rebuilt or shepard tranny- if anything - the 95' turbo years seem to be the strongest- you can find one for much cheaper- and you already have a transfere case too.

keep your eye out for 95' trannies or same in the classifieds here- there is some good stuff- also- type in you state in the search link, who knows - the guy down the street may be selling his?

just to throw in a 1st gen tranny will not work in a 2nd gen car. the engine mounts are actually on the tranny instead of the block on the 2nd gen.

I told the guy that I had a 97 GST and I would need a 2g FWD trany. He told me that he thought he had one but he had to check. My question is... Will a 7 bolt 2g FWD transmission from Japan fit properly on my 97 2g FWD USA spec GST? I am not doing the AWD conversion or anything like that. I just want to make my stupid Automatic GST a manual.

i wouldn't - due to cross size issues- if you are converting auto to 5spd- then you will most likely be using other transmission components that are most likely USDM- so fitment may be an issue- also- many people who do not specialize in DSM often think that any dsm- 90-99 will fit together- this is a common problem- i would just find a cheaper same mileage 95' USDM tranny to use- but thats my opinion

whats up with that man- im trying to help- my issue im going off is my friends91 VR-4- his tranny was JDM and was told it would bolt right up!- it didnt- in fact it screwed over his whole car - just b/c his tranny was told it would fit but it didnt- im trying to stop you from making a $2500 mistake- if you want to spend your money- go right ahead- 7bolt tranny might work- i got a JDM 7bolt tranny also- but it was AWD- it did not fit- so i ordered a JDM transfere case- then it fit- but converting to a 5spd- requires the clutch pedal assembly, hard lines, master/slave cylinders- i dont think USDM parts would fit b/c it didnt on mine.

There is no 2g in japan, there is only the evo's and the galants
