Jb Weld on cracked Valve Cover?

Okay so I found out my valve cover was cracked AFTER I put in the new gaskets, stupid of me I know. I heard Jb Weld is good to seal it up but I was wondering, do you apply the epoxy on the outside or inside or both? Better to ask than have to buy a new cover haha if I do mess it up.

around my area a valve cover is only like $30.if your short on cash and want to use jb weld, im sure you can get away with putting it on the inside aslong as u clean the cover so there is no oil or any other impurities that might make it not set properley, hope that helps.

Ima go to the junkyard right now actually to see if I can pick up one haha. I can reuse the old gaskets I put on right? Well I wouldn't call them old since I got them yesterday and have only turned the car on once.

Yes if since it was put on yesterday your fine. But I would definitly get a new valve cover. Last thing you want is jbweld in your motor.

Yeah that should be fine. If you're talking a dozen on-offs, then I would replace it.
170km on mine, but about 6-7 on/offs, two dozen heat cycles and it leaks now

Alright so I went to the junkyard and found none, jb weld it is for now I guess. Jb weld in my motor? I plan on letting it set over night .

How bad is the leak? I wouldnt trust the JB weld to hold up forever. Valve covers are not that hard to find.

Most junk yards have Dsm parts pretty cheap, I got one the other day for 15 and,a black top can angle sensor for 20 is Terry that first before spending a, bunch on something that is,a, dime,a dozen

I went to two different big junkyards. Not one single valve cover, checked hyundais out as well and none. I just jb welded it until I orderone online. The crack is pretty significant. It caused oil to leak ontop

If that doesn't work keep looking there and the JunkYards., I bought one here at the classifieds section for about 40 bucks. In the meanwhile JB weld should work for some time.

Be sure you have the JB Weld cure with the valve cover torqued down. This means if you use 5 min JB Weld you will have to apply it with the valve cover on the car.
I would also suggest sanding across the area of the crack with 80grit while you have the cover off of the car. Be sure you make deep scratches for good mechanical grip. You can even use the corner edge of a file to make deeper gouges across the crack as well. Spray the area liberally with brake cleaner and you should be good.
I've seen these repairs last for a very long time and I've seen some fail right away so once it's on the car just keep an eye on it for leaks; maybe you'll get lucky. Then just replace whenever you come across a good deal on one.

The instructions don't take into account that the piece your fixing will flex a good amount. You can do it off the car if you are using regular jb weld but make sure it cures with the valve cover torqued down so it cures with the cover already flexed. If you only have 5 min jb weld you will have to put it on with the cover already torqued in place because you'll make yourself crazy trying to get it all together in time. Also, don't even start the car for about 20hrs or oil could contaminate the bond.

I would expect it to leak eventually with JB weld, plus it will look ugly. Id vote to pick one up from the classifieds section or have yours properly welded

You should be fine installing another valve cover on a nearly fresh gasket. I'd advise against trying to repair a broken valve cover. There are a huge amount of valve covers in the marketplace section everyday (seems like 1 out of 10 ads has a valve cover, many are even powdercoated/painted really nice).
