So I was taking my valve cover off to paint it and i missed one screw and pried up the cover...in turn creating a crack that now pools oil when i drive...can i just JB weld this crack up instead of buying a new VC for 150 bucks? I checked the Mitsu Graveyard and they're out right now.

I don't really care how it looks, just if it keeps oil from leaking out of the cover.

Thanks

Sure, it should work and i'm guessing your not the first dsm owner to do it:rolleyes:
Just tell yourself its a temporary fix until you get a different valve cover;)

well i'm going to be in the process of shaving and mirror finishing one of my valve covers once thats done I can sell you one cheaper

Let me know how that goes. I was thinking the same for myself. PICS! As for JB weld, I don't see why not. I've JB welded quite a few things before. One of them being a hole in the block of a GM Northstar V8 in a Cadillac. Caused by the mechanic missing the freeze plug when he tried popping it out with a ball ping. I placed washers on either side and put a bolt and nut through it after thoroughly coating it with JB and

I love when people weld randomness and ends up working, one of my friends had a syncro gear on his skyline crack. He figured let me try and mig it back together, he tried and it actually worked! Never seen anything like it I was laughing so hard!

Well might as well try it :) worse comes to worse i pick up a used cover from the junk yard. Thanks!

Yes it will work. Alot of people underestimate JB weld. It really does work. I have some on my valve cover intake pipes and some water lines. 5 years later and its still holding like it should.

Stop being a hacker, buy another cover or take it to a local welder.

I took a closer look at the crack tonight and see it continues up the side wall of the VC...it's too much to JB Weld it so i just got a new VC from ebay...thanks for the replies!

I cracked mine and took it to a local welder. It took like 5 min and didnt charge me at all. Has not leaked a drop yet. If your gonna fix it fix it right and just get it welded. BUT if you have the money just get a new one.

I'll give you 10 bucks for the broken cover....
