I'm having an issue with the belt on my 2g Jay Racing GM alternator relocation kit. My engine is a 2g 7 bolt and I'm using a 200A Saturn alternator with the stock 2g pulley and stock crank pulley.

I tried using the belt included in the kit from the alternator to the crank pulley, but the 335 belt is too long and makes the alternator hit the subframe. Then I tried a 332 belt which is better, but still hitting the subframe. Then I tried a 325 belt, but it's too short to walk on the crank pulley with the alternator bolted to the tensioner, and if I slip the belt on with the alternator not bolted to the tensioner then I can't get the alternator bolted up again. I haven't tried a 327 yet because the parts store didn't have one in stock but I suspect it's too short too. It seems there is a ridiculously small allowance for belt size here and I can't find the right sized one.

Has anybody else run into this issue? If you're running a 2g GM alternator relocation kit please share your experience!

BTW, my tensioner is on the bottom hole of the bracket. At first I accidentally had it on the top hole and I was having issues with the belt rubbing against the timing belt cover or running out of adjustment length on the tensioner depending on what size belt I tried.

Thanks for the reply, but I have plenty of clearance to the frame. It's the subframe I'm having issues with. And for a part that I paid this much for I don't think I should have to do any clearancing with a hammer.

Any pics of the issue? I helped jay do some of the test fitment on a 2g for the standard relocation kit, but I wasn't aware that the saturn alt was too much larger.

I think the real problem is the castings for the saturn / GM alts are not all created equal. So if you end up with an Alt that secures the adjustment rod in a different location these issues could occur. What model/year alt are you using?

on a side note, Jay's a stand up guy and he will work with you to resolve any issues.

I had this issue. I picked up a shorter belt at Advance Auto I believe and it works great now. I can't remember what size belt it is though.

Could you check the belt size when you get a chance? I'm thinking a 330 might work so I'll have to pick one of those up in a few days.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures and I won't be near the car until Wednesday. This is the exact 200A alternator I'm using:
SC/SL Series

Unfortunately, I don't even have a good picture of the alternator to compare mounting points. It was hard to be sure but I believe both the body and the fan were hitting the subframe. I swapped on my stock 2g pulley because the one that came with it was much smaller. I believe stock Saturn pulleys are larger than the one I have. Jay insisted that this kit was designed with a Saturn pulley, but I know if I swapped on the one I have the situation would be even worse.

Jay is a good guy. I talked with him for awhile about the first problem I was having before he realized I had the tensioner bolted to the wrong hole in the bracket. Now if I can just find the right belt size I'll be good :)

I found that 330 and 327 belts fit. Neither can be put on with the alternator still bolted to the tensioner. The 330 was a little too close to the subframe for comfort, so I went with the 327 and have slightly less than a finger's worth of clearance from the alternator fan to the subframe and no rubbing on the timing cover.

These are the best pictures I could get.

I'm also having an issue with my relocation kit.2g with a 6-bolt swap, advanced auto sc series alt,no power steering.the issue i'm having is that w/o power steering i'm forced to use one belt to run the alt,and water pump with the spacer on the passenger side the alt pulley would hit the frame rail, and with the spacer on the drivers side(meaning having to use the inside of the pullies)the belt hits and rubs the timing mark spot on the timing cover. any help with this would help as this is at this point holding up my build.:banghead:

i had the same problem with mine. I ended up getting a stack of m8 washers and shimming it till it lined up properly. With both the spacers i got with my kit neither one allowed the belt to be properly lined up with the crank pully, they both caused almost 1/8th inch of slop either way. With the washers with it lined up correctly the belt is dead straight and it clears the frame on the ds.
