Went to go buy a car today. While driving back home it died. Make a wired click noise right before it went. Nothing special i was just sitting at a stop light...then bang. Died.

Car is a 90 eclipse gst.

Big 16g, Still 450 injectors. Something is wrong with boost hits 20psi. I know thats not good but i don't think it was the engine. (I was at no where near 20psi at any point of my way home. I was following my dad. Maybe 9 at max)
MAFT, and FMIC. We took it on a pretty serious test drive nothing wrong at all. I was even about an hour away from home (After already driving 45-60min) And it just randomly died. It tires to crank. Car ran great..i just don't get it.

Maybe the ecu? Maybe MAFT? Shoot some idea's at me. Im just so feed up with this.

LOL nah it didn't bang, just shut off but right before it did i hear a little clicking almost like a turn signal. Something along that. But if it's trying to crank its getting compression correct? Arg not to mention the bov venting into the atmosphere ( Don't flame me i just bought it =D ) Greddy Bov; maybe an rs? Ill get some pic's tomorrow

I have a 2g, but Mike Welch and Robert Honda ( the main guys at RRE) told me that 1g eclipses have ecu problems. A clicking sound ( like a fuel pump relay) is a clue that some parts of the ecu board have melted leaving a wierd goo. Hope that helps.

+1 that it is an ecu problem. Take the ECU out and check the caps, and the circuit board under the caps. If the acid leaked out from the caps, you will have to clean it up and replace the caps or buy another 90 ecu.

Well yes it is the stock ecu and there was a funny smell. I thought it was coolant, but i can't find any leaks. Ill run down to the shop and check ecu tomorrow. While im taking a few pic's. I got a question about eprom. Message - DSM Classifieds That ecu going to work? Thanks guys for the help

i drove a 90 gst home too, today took 5 hours to go an original 20mile distance which became a 50 mile detour, kept overheating, but when you crank it, it keeps cranking and wont fire up, until 5 seconds, and then it turns on and fires up, but i chekced my plugs and wires and there destroyed, ill post pictures of mine up, but hey at least u had ## dad, i had my cousin in the gst and my friend following behind in my 1.8, also i had flats appearing randomly, it seems like its been a bad day for dsm buyers today

Lol eff you atleast your starts =D. This car was the owners daily driver. I called him back explaining the problem and he was just amazed and thought i was joking. =X The car broke down in the worst spot possible. The middle of 28 in pittsburgh..no shoulder..just stupid me sitting on the side of the road. And a guy in a gsx went by smilieing at me =(

hahah, yea we did 2 pit stops in the middle of the road in downtown boston by the medical schools, and nothing sucks more when everyone is walking by at you and staring at you and pointing at the smoke, but hey all that burning coolant and antifreeze will prob give them cancer

That clicking sounds like the ECU failing. Probably the caps on the board. The smell, kind of like a rotten seafood smell is the leaking electrolytic from the caps on the ECU. You will most likely need another ECU

Well i didnt have any smoke at all just quit all of the sudden.

Can someone answer my question in post 8 about that ecu i posted. If thats the case ill be purchasing it monday.

That ECU should work on your car, is the same year plus it is an Eprom ecu, nice deal thou

The best thing to do on this cases is, try one of your buddies ecu on your car(that is if you have a friend with a car that is same year & turbo).

Put your key in the ignition, see if the check engine light comes on at acc. Should give you all the lights and everything, if CEL doesnt come on, ecu is dead. Another way to check, pull the ecu and see if you smell something or if anything on the board is burned.

As far as the ECU is concerned, it depends on what month your car was built. Initially, these cars for 1990 were made in 1989 and all the turbos used the same ECU, part
MD128625 later in 1990, they switched to different part numbers The ECU you are looking at there is a later model 1990 AWD turbo ECU(MD145509) so it depends which ECU is in your car.

You've jumped timing, probably shred the teeth off the timing belt at the crankshaft. The most common times for this to happen is during startup and at idle- it's where the cams are the most resistant to turning.

Are you saying that you hope its just the timing beltWTF. 4G63's are interference motors. You will bend valves if you jump more than a few teeth

Yes. thats what i would be hoping for. I'm assuming the car is still at the shop. Well be sure to post back when you find the problem.;)

maybe ## starter blew? check out my 90gst i just posted pictures of it, put some of yours up too
