ITM Timing Belts

Who has had experience with ITM timing belts? If you have one tell me how many miles you have on it and how much abuse its been through (autocross,dragway etc). I know there are some guys on here that use them.

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT MITSUBISHI OEM BELTS. THANK YOU.

Old saying goes,"You get what you paid for"

Don't think that you'll find any DSM'ers in here that would take the chance using these products. We wanna take care of our vehicles ..

You don't want to hear about oem timing belts? These are much more sensitive engines.

Stop crying, save the money and get an OEM belt.

That's his whole idea - is to SAVE money by going this route.

I know about ITM and they're cheap, cheap, cheap. ... made in Taiwan ... Bought some ITM lifters for a 4G37 motor from an online parts house for a steal of a price - tons cheaper than NAPA or OEM. Got rid of the tick that I had with that motor, but sold the car shortly afterwards....

Stuff if good for a quick fix if you're planning on NOT keeping the car for the duration...

That's pretty much the same kit that O'reilly's sells. I actually used the GMB tensioners and bought a Gates T-belt from O'reilly's. 14,000 miles so far. Then again, I do perform regular maintenance on my car and inspect all timing components for wear every oil change. O'reilly's offers a warranty on their Gates belts. So, if it starts to shred itself I just take it off and get a new one.

Well, I can't remember what timing belt is on mine, got it with the PartsDinosaur kit, but I want to say it is an S A Gear timing belt. This goes for the balance shaft belt too. I know the water pump is from ITM and tensioners are from PCI. I also have Gates accessory belts (PS, ALT, A/C). I have almost 10,000+ miles on them and everything is ok. I check it them all the time. Gates is another great company that makes quality belts.

Some people just think because its OEM, it never fails and anything else but OEM does fail. It's not true and has been proven time and again. Maybe they had bad experiences or maybe they just say everything else is crap because they've only delt with OEM. I don't know but I believe ITM is quality. To tell you the truth, I don't think anything associated with the timing side of my engine is OEM :dsm:. The crank pulley is even from dun dun dun.... Autozone. Oh wait, the 5 seals on the timing side is OEM. :D

"you get what you pay for?" you own a dsm for christ sake and we beat exotics all day etc. I see guys running 11's on ebay turbos. I just did a survey on sunny tires (cheap china tires) and every single person said they were legit and just had a little road noise. One guy have 15k miles on them. I plan on do a review on these when I get them. Do not give me this bias crap. I have read about gates and conti-tech belts and how good their quality is. I was just interested in ITM BELTS because I found a cheap kit. Who uses these belts is the question here. STICK TO THE TOPIC.....

P.S. Cheap websites do not determine anything about the product. Look at parts dinosaur. Have you ever heard of marketing prices? Websites cost alot of money to run why do you think Ebay was invented?

Finally GSX someone with some .02. =)

Oh well..all of a matter of personal opinion with what the end user wants to use on their motors and such...Why there is tonnage of manufacturers out there making the same product - some want OEM and some want aftermarket..

...called "given a choice".

It's just that-back in 1990 when DSM's came out, if one took the upper cover off of a brand new turbo motor, what manufacturer would have their name on the face of the belt?

Aftermarket parts aren't all bad- Moog ball joints and steering parts will outlast ANYTHING installed from the factory on GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Jeep products. Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic brake pads will stop better and make less dust than OEM pads. You just have to know who builds good stuff, and who's supplying products to the auto manufacturers with their own branding on it.

Mitsubishi's not going to build a plant somewhere in Japan that only builds timing belts for their select few vehicles....they're going to find a company that already builds quality products, and strike up a deal with them to build a belt that is Mitsubishi-branded. It'll save them millions in manufacturing costs by doing so.

We sell Dayco belts at my workplace, and it's printed right on the Dayco timing belt box "Guaranteed to meet or exceed manufacturer's requirements". What that tells me is that belt should last as long or longer than the service interval of the OEM belt. Dayco has put lots of R & D and testing into their product, and they're confident that it will perform as such.

Personally i haven't seen any belt just fail. It is always an improper install, or the tensioner, or idler parts that cause the failure. As far as oem quality, does anybody but me know that there was a suit caused by the early dsm timing belts breaking well before the 60k interval. I've said it a million times, if oem was the end all be all, why doesen't everyone drive bone stock cars, oem is the best, right. Our fuel rails are made by the same company that makes ebay water pumps, take a look yourself.

The bearings in the pulleys that were from the kit aren't ITM-built components; I believe the green seals were labeled NTN / Japan, which was the same brand as the pulleys that I removed from the car which had at least 60k on them. That I can trust....which is good, because the pulleys were the reason I bought the kit to begin with.

Well my experience with ITM was not good. I read enough here that after I bought an ITM kit I chickened out and went with an OEM Belt but I did go ahead with the ITM idler and tensioner pulleys. 6,000 miles later the tensioner pulley locked up while my kid was driving home from school. He didnt stop the car til it was too late bent the valves up in our new head. So we are rebuilding again :(

You buy this and your next thread will be why did my engine fail..
4g63 motors are very sensitive, they like nice things. For anything related to timing and water pump you MUST go OEM.
Extremepsi.com or JNZtuning.com will have them cheaper. For the belt it's OEM or Greddy or NOTHING!
Pinch pennies elsewhere.
I just read a thread where the guy replaced everything on the timing side except the tensioner and now he is in need of a rebuild.
But hey, what do we know?

i have had a good year gatorback for about 20k now and its taken its fair share of a beating and in my opinion it still looks pretty new

if you know so much about timing belts why the hell are you asking us which one to get... you got on here for help so take what you get... everyone on here is 100% right when they say you get what you pay for and for something as important as timing you should NOT take the cheap route.. idk though im sure you'll have an awesome rebutle of how im wrong in some sort of way so lets hear it...
