i have a 98 GST , i am changing a timing belt and doing BS elimination .
It happen when i was inexperianced and turned the Crankshaft in CCW direction.
Atter taking my tyming belt off the intake cam baounced like a 180* to the right cw direction.
Now it looks copletly opposite of what it is on this . is it safe to rotate the camshaft so they align correctly?

The other question is if i have to remove the beance shaft sprocket and install a cap on ir??
I know this question may look stupid to some of you , but i have no idea how its supposed to'
be and I just want to get this car back on the road by spring , Thank you for reading .

yes, its safe to move the camshaft by hand to re-align the timing marks, the cams jumping with the belts off is common, it happens because of the cam lobes being in contact with the cam followers that apply valve spring pressure to the cam lobes, causing the cam to want to "jump". And there are several ways to do the b/s elimination on the 4g63, you can actually leave the front b/s in the engine if you want and simply remove the belt from it, or you can remove it completely and install a "plug" of some type in the front case where the b/s used to reside. :dsm:

if you take te front bs out, dont forget to replace the bearings. not doing so will kill your oil pressure and eventually your engine. You must replace the bearings so the oil holes are no longer viewable. You can buy new bearings( which is the more common method) or reuse your old two piece bearings and simply just spin them so they block the oil passages. This is critical.

Before you turn the cam spin the crank 90* past the timing mark. This will ensure that no valve-piston contact will occur while youre spinning the cam.
