ISC motor rebuild?

Hello, does anyone have a link to a page that explains how to rebuild an ISC motor? I know you have to solder the bad coils off and the new ones on, but I'd feel better if I had a walkthrough.

Also, I was wondering how it is possible to have idle surge with the ISC motor unplugged. I have idle surge and thought if I unplugged it, it would stop. If the ISC motor is what raises and lowers the idle, how can the idle surge without the motor?

I am not aware of anyone doing an ISC rebuild and posting the procedure.. Are you sure you are confusing this with the ECU capacitor replacement? And have you found your ISC coils to be bad?

The ISC is supposed to adjust the incoming air to keep the idle steady but if there are other problems (such as a vacuum leak or boost leak), then it may not be able to do it's job.

If you have not performed an idle surge troubleshoot checklist then I suggest you do so.

Repairing the ISC shouldn't be that hard if you can solder. Just take out the three screws from the plastic top and you will have access to the coils. Unsolder the coils that tested badly and solder the good coils in their place. All the coils can be interchanged. Clean, Re-test, and reinstall.

When the ISC is unplugged it remains in the same posistion that it was in when unplugged. Almost like it is frozen. A sticking ISC resulting from bad coils is what causes idle surge from the ISC. From what I can remember the ECU cuts fuel at 1500 rpm with the idle reset switch depressed. This is after adding fuel for it to compensate for the air leak (bad ISC), resulting in the up and down surge from the air leak. So while the ISC is bad the ECU is actually causing the surge because of the air leak, adding and cutting fuel.

Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry if there was any confusion. Yes, I've already tested the coils and one of them is bad. I've already had to swap the ISC for a new one, which has now gone bad. Instead of buying yet another one, I'm going to put my old one and the newer one together.

So you're saying the reason the motor can rev up and down with the ISC unplugged is because the ISC is stuck open and the ECU just keeps cutting the fuel over and over again? That makes sense.
