2G pistons are better. They will give you higher compression (8.5:1 vs our 7.8:1). They will work great with our beefy 1G rods, but you will need to machine the rods to accept the 2G pistons. What kind of numbers do you plan on running in the hp/tq field?

i really dont know what i plan on running hp and torq wise

at first the head is gonna be stock./gasket matched/stock injectors . running 94 octane. and evo 3 16g at about 15 lbs of boost daily
balance shaft eliminator kit and act 2600 clutch and act 12 lb flywheel. 3 inch catback exhaust to magnaflow muffler

the motor is already together minus the head and junk.. as seen here

later on down the road comes cams bigger injectors port work.. stand alone. 3 inch downtube 2gmaft

Sorta....the higher compression is a double edge sword. It will let you make more power off boost, but its not soo good under boost. The 8.5:1 compression really messes with your ability to run high boost on 93, with the stock 1g timing maps. They have to much advance. You'll find it difficult to run much more that about 15psi without being able to pull some timing out.

Realistically 2g pistons are not any better than 1g pistons. Personally, I have been running 9:1 motors for years and I really regret building this last one 9:1. It will not take more than 15psi without a drastic reduction of timing. And it sucks.

how can i pull timing out?. a local shop/dsm head has dsm links. can you change the timing curve or ratio through dsm links to where i could run 20 psi down the road

DSMLink ftw! You can find a good used V2 for a good price. With it you can change the curves and ratios, but I would recommend a pro unless you have really good experience with it.

i know a guy with dsm link if i have a eprom ecu am i good to go for dsmlink or do i need something else?

Dsmlink is an awsome tuning tool.It allows you to wayyyy more than just pull timing I run 22psi on a 16g on my 2g all day. It's my DD.Using dsmlink would allow you to tune the car to get the most power out of your setup.....The price of it is deffenatly worth it imo.

go to ECMTuning, Inc. it will tell you what you need to know.....

man you guys are awesome.!!! thanks for the quick help.

anyone have any suggestions on what i should get ? or does what i listed above sound good?
