Is this racing harness setup acceptable?

Car came with a Sparco 3pt harness and some Evo 8 Recaros. He had them just attached in the stock rear seat location, but i read that can break your collarbones/spine in an accident, so I got a harness bar. I didnt know if I was just supposed to wrap the harness around the bar or how else to secure it, so I wrapped it once and snugged it as much as possible, then left it in the rear spot still. I figured wrapping it around the bar would make the bar the point of tension in case of an accident. Is this good? Thanks! (this doesnt have to pass tech inspection, its just a street car)

That really depends on the angle of the mounting point to the seat. And seat layback would obviously affect that as well. So, not everyone would always be right or wrong, and you'd need to measure to be sure.

Yours are fine, the harness bar lifts the angle up, and the seatbelt points are strong and have been tested during crash testing. The high angle is so the belt holds you back in the seat. If you mount it down its holding you down and not back. This is where spine compression comes in.

I wouldn't trust that harness bar. Those drop downs have collapsed in similar designs in other cars, which then allows the main bar to drop down and thus provide slack in the should harness straps. Any slack will allow you to slide out. There's a video of this happening in a civic but I can't remember the search terms for it.

The bar is pretty high up; I kept it in mind when installing. In the 2nd pic I tried to show that you could see the bar is pretty level with the holes in the seat. Im sure its not past that 20* mark.

Is it okay if both shoulder straps bolt to the rear seat seatbelt C piller spot?

Itd probably be ok but that mounting point is way to the side, so itd probably be a little awkward

The ones I saw were all pretty much designed the same. Just a few were slightly different.

I jave it there now it's just fine. I just didn't know if it was considered legal. It's with in the angle spec.

I can vouch for a setup like this. I was involved in a bad accident and I was wearing that exact harness. In my case, I was tboned and the medics agreed that it held me in place better than a normal seatbelt. No whiplash or anything. If this is illegal in your area the general reasoning is because if you roll over, you cant move your upper body out of the way if the roof collapses. Many people feel that these are very dangerous without a cage or roll bar, but in most cases (guarding a rollover) I believe them to be safer.
