if so I am screwed, there was no bolt on there. In fact there might have not been since I bought the car

Yes the first is the drain, and the second is the fill. That transfer case is junk if there is no oil in it and the car has been driven like that.

yes thats the drain plug.i have a extra one on a 22 spline transfer case.I dont think the plug differs between 1g &2g.send me a pm if you want my extra plug

honestly this is the first time I even looked at it, when I saw the bolt was missing I knew something was up. I never removed it but how the #### did I drive it for 6 months like that?


so how much am I looking at for a an 99 Auto transfer case?

I'm curious, does the tcase spin nicely still? You'd think it'd last a week or something with no oil and being open to water and contaminants. And of course howl like a banshee.

I"ll pm u about the drain plug when i get home. So since its shot could i do any more damage if i fill it up and take it to park it? My mind is still blown, i never removed that nut and i had the car for 11 months

Id say put a plug in it and fill her back up. Then just see how long it goes till it breaks and have a spare ready. Whats the worst that could happen, fill it up and it works for 100,000 more miles?

Deffinatley not an expert on the transfer cases, but I'd put money on the insides being worn out. Who know's if the OP's T-Case has been recalled or not. I can't remember if it was all the years , or just some. But the worst thing I think that can happen is the T-Case locking up, causing everything attached to it to freeze & possibley break. Just saying. I know the T-cases can be had AND rebuilt for around $200 or so, so why take the chance of breaking something else?

Well, the OP could die. DO NOT DRIVE on a bad transfer case. Why am I yelling? Because I was one of the original members of the group that contacted NHTSA about the leak. If a tcase seizes it can take the car off the road even if you're doing 80 mph. This is bad bad bad bad bad advice. OP. You have but one choice. Fix the problem by taking the tcase apart or get another one. This one is not to be trusted as is.
