Toronto,
What happened was a screw from the top flywheel cover came loose (so we think) and it caused havok in my transmission (1g in a 2g) including eating up my fidanza and the bottom portion of my crank as shown

IMO it's not part of the rotating mass so it shouldn't have any impact right? If anything I would just clean up the loose shavings and then RTV any gaps left by the screw gouging.

What do you guys think?

Also, what is this piece that broke off during my transmission removal (speed sensor?)? Is it req. for a 1g in a 2g swap? You'll notice the plastic broke and so did the small metal slot thingy thats in my hands.

There's also another sensor. What's this for? Kinda similar to the first.

Thanks everyone.

the crank should be fine. i would just watch very closely for leaks from the main seal there and if it does leak get a new seal and cap.

yea thats what i meant i couldnt really think what to call it. but yea thats what i was talkin about

So, what exactly got damaged? The crank or the main seal? I can't tell from the pictures (their too out of focus). And what exactly were you going to put RTV on?

Pic #2 --the closeup of my crank, if you look at the bottom you could make out some dmg right where the circular part of the crank ends. (notice its a bit rough looking with the shavings) So it looks like the bolt kinda gouged at the bottom of it a bit. So I'm thinking of RTVing the gouges where water splashes might enter.

that is for your reverse lights (manual right?) If it's an automatic there should be gigantic plugs everywhere and then I have no idea... I could tell you where the park neutral safety switch is on the A/t plug, and which wires to splice your reverse lights into though... :sneaky:

as for the speed sensor, it is located somewhere around/inside of/next to (something like that) the rear engine mount, the one that's pretty much on the firewall.

It has a spline/spindle on the bottom of it, plastic if I remember correctly, that gets spun telling the car how fast it is going, so there's probably parts of it still inside of the transmission. It's 1g's that a have a cable driven speedo, not 2g's, all eletrical signals.

From what I can tell it did not get the crank, but it did the main seal cover. If you think you need a new one, I think the part number is stamped on it!

Also ya you will need a new speedo sensor. The other one is the reverse light sensor

OK, I see now. Your crank is fine. The gouged part is the main seal housing. As long as the main seal was not damaged, then you're fine. Personally, I wouldn't even worry about replacing it.

Also, water does not splash up to that area. For the most part, that area should be sealed from road debris. There would be no benefit from applying any RTV to that area.

I've got a 6 Bolt engine so a gasket would be required then.
I don't know in regards to how badly the damage right now will affect it. But I'm leaning towards replacing the rear main seal cover and gasket.

Thanks!
