Is this an Eprom or not?

Okay, I can get a great deal on an ECU, but I had a couple questions before I spent the money. I know that to get a dsmlink I need an Eprom, and I know that an Eprom has to have the E at the bottom, right? My questions are these...Does it matter if the car is AWD or FWD for the Eprom to work, meaning can you have an Eprom from a GSX to a GST? Also, are these numbers right for the Eprom...

To my knowledge it does not matter about the ECU coming from AWD to FWD or vice versa they are interchangeable. Though, I am unable to comment on those numbers to verify EPROM or not because I am not sure.

FWD or AWD won't matter. By the code you listed it seems like it is an EPROM ECU.

First ask him what year car the ECU came out of. If I'm not mistaken 2g's only had eprom ecu's in '95. If it is a 95 ecu then tell him to unscrew the four screws on the ecu's cover and check for an eprom chip. Refer him to this website.

There is a picture about half way down the page that shows what an eprom ecu looks like when the cover is removed. Eprom chip is circled in red in the lower left-hand corner of the pic.

BTW, doesn't matter if it's a FWD or AWD, either one will work.

Okay, he said it came out of a 1998 GSX, but it has the E at the bottom just like the dsmlink webiste says. I will try to have him send more pics of the ecu though. I know that the 1995 only came with the Eprom, so I just wanted to be sure with the E and all, is that a for sure thing since dsmlink says so, or should I have to worry about it, and have him send pics of the inside too?

A definite desision can be made from the internals. Any asshole can put an EPROM cover on a nonEPROM case. Get a pic of the board.

No EPROMs were installed in 98s. Definately get a picture of the inside of the ecu before buying it. It is possible one was swapped into his car prior to him purchasing it but more than likely he is jerking you around.
