I'm considering purchasing this car with a blown motor.. The body appears to be in better shape than mine (20,000 miles less and 3 years newer), plus it has almost every bolt on part I've been wanting to buy in the future. If I do go for this deal, I think I could get a least a couple thousand back from my shell/part out making this a quick way to upgrade my car to the stage I want, for a couple thousand bucks.

He wants $4,000 cash (CAN$) but all I have is the one outside pic in the ad and a description so far. Here's the link..

1998 Eagle Talon TSI AWD Blown Motor - Edmonton Dodge Cars For Sale - Kijiji Edmonton

pro's

better rims, no rust, better paint, full 2gb (i've been working towards a 2gb conversion), probably $5000 in bolt on's alone. my car is still mostly stock and slowly degrading, the repairs are holding me back from upgrades.

con's

My engine has 210,000 km's on it and ticks... would still require a head rebuild. Perhaps I could use my engine in the meantime while a rebuild the blown motor, juggle two engines?

any input?

I say go for it... put your motor in it and get it tuned properly and bam you got a nice car. Anyways good luck and be smart about it.

Well it says "blown Motor" what exactly does he mean by that? Did he throw a rod through the block? If so, your looking at damaged valves, new block, rods, pistons, and crank. These pasrt alone could cost you a pretty penny. If its the clean body that your into I would try talking him into selling the shell for about 2k and investing into a 6 bolt motor. Then you would be looking at a clean 2g with the 6bolt for about 4k. That seems reasonable to me.

I'f I had the experience I have now and was in the market for a new car I'd go for it.

Theres quite a bit of money in aftermarket parts there to make up for the blown motor. Especially if you've got an extra you can drop in then you have a clean 2g with "all the upgrades you'd do" it's all on you though. Personally for me It'd be worth 1-2k for a really clean shell just for less hassle when I'm working on it and body work.
