i was offered a 12" sony xplod sub and an xplod 4 channel 444 watt amp all for $100. should i hit it? or is it a bad deal?

More info would be good, but from what I can see, unless you're looking for the cheapest sounding bass money can buy, you should pass. You might be better off buying one of those ridiculous bazooka pre-assembled tubes.

ok, the sub looks kinda hexagonal in shape and i think the guy said something about 1200 watt peak power. the amp is no longer in production. its an xplod xm-444w. now i realize the amp wont be powering the sub to its full potential, but i figured for $100 how bad can it be?

Could be a good deal, but I would never use that amp to power subs. If you want an amp to power your mids and highs go ahead.

should i just offer to buy the sub? my moms boyfriend will sell me a jenson JPA1300M amp for $70

for $100, if everything works, and you're looking for a quick fix to get you by until you can save up to buy something real, and good... why not? you can probably pawn it off in a few months for the same amount of money assuming it does NOT live up to its name before that.

it's not the best stuff in the world, but if it works, it's not a bad deal. just don't plan on running it forever. myself, i believe in "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right", but if it's a quick fix for you, what the heck!?!

exactly...

oh and those subs... good to about 250- 300w rms according to sony themselves
peak is like saying "for a split second one time they will not burn out"

oh, i know what peak power is, im just saying that is all i know about the sub that the guy told me

in my opinion sony doesnt make very good subs, my cousin had them in his 3000gt :notgood: u could prolly find a much better deal on some better subs off ebay :D
