Is it normal for an aftermarket stereo to stay on for a little bit after you turn the car off and take the keys out?

Kurt if you are referring to a short amount of time, like under a second, it's just the time necessary for the energy to dissipate from the stereo's components through the speakers. It's quite normal and want cause any harm.

if it turns off by itself in a couple seconds, then thats okay. But if it stays on for like 5 minutes, then you need to check the wires. :thumb:

Mine Use To Stay On For Like 25 Seconds After I Tunrned The Car Off, Until I Figured Out That The Black Wire On The Factory Plug Was A Ground For The Headlights. You Have To Ground The Radio To Some Metal Inside The Area For The Radio There Is No Ground Wire On The Factory Harness.

Its an Eclipse CD5423 it stays on for about a minute or so after the key is off. My ground is good. I'm sure its wired up right unless my plug was wrong when I got it.

your constant 12v lead and your switched 12v lead may be transposed

We wouldn't expect someone who can't grasp capitalization to understand simple electronics. :|

My bad about the capitalization. I was at work and the caps lock stays on. Anyway i work at a stereo shop so i think i might know a little something about electronics. When i got the car the factory plug was cut so i had to hard wire it and when i did it i was at my house with no sheat on the factory wire colors and no multimeter. So i don't that was too bad for what i was workin with. :thumb:

It looks simple, but it really is a job for professionals. You shouldn't try this at home.

My sony detachable stays on for about 20 seconds, but that is just time for me to take out the cd's and remove it, so I'm told anyways.
