Resolved Is this a genuine Mitsubishi big 16g?

Is this a genuine Big 16g turbo? I was told that it was from forced performance and is ported by them.

The number on it is 49178-01 42(the 42 is engraved) 0

I know this topic has been gone over before, but I dont want to make assumptions myself as to what it is, I would rather someone on here who knows what there talking about when it comes to these turbo's let me know before I buy it, thanks

and if not mistaken, dont e316g's have a turbine outlet of 2.5" while big/small 16g's are 2" in diameter...?

Evo VIII 16G, 9.8 hotside. This turbo rotates the opposite direction of any DSM turbo, and cannot be used on one of our cars without serious modification....this includes fabbing your own exhaust manifold.

Yeah i knew something was up with this turbo, b/c i cant seem to find that serial number anywhere and it doesn't have TD05H in large print on the turbo like normal 16g's... Appreciate the info and also im curious, what car do these typically come on or made for...?

Evo VIII 16G, 9.8 hotside.

....I suppose that would include all 2003 and 2004 Lancer Evolution VIII models. In 2005 they switched to a larger turbine housing.

IIRC, it's actually a 16G-6.

I thought about going that route and was easily talked out of it being that tdo5h"R" turbos spin "reverse" and the inlet flange is dif. It would be cool to do something different but it's so easy to copy millions. Does anyone know if this guy can just get an evo mani to bolt up the "backwards" turbo and just make some oil/water lines for it?

There are more variants of 16G's out there than most folks realize.

For instance, I have a 16G at my shop from a Mitsubishi RVR Hyper Sports Gear R. It rotates just as one of our turbos do (not reverse), uses a Evo III 16G compressor wheel, is in a standard (unported, 31mm flapper) 7cm2 turbine housing, and has a downfiring compressor outlet that faces the driver's side of the car....perfect for someone with a FMIC.
