Is this a true Big 16G?

Flicker is down but i just uploaded them to my profile. Im looking to purchase this turbo to replace my knockoff 16g. but want to know if it looks good. the compressor says 49178-01470

That's the part number for an Evo III 16G, but some of the knockoff turbos have this part number on them as well.

Does it say "Turbocharger" on it anywhere? If so, it's not Genuine. From the pics you uploaded, it appears to be a MHI turbo.

Ok thanks for the info. No turbocharger stamps or anything like that, Just wanted to verify before i purchased it. Ok, back to work i go(on break, i work overnite)....

ok, well i bought this turbo. I randomly decided to pour a little oil in the oil line, and well it came out the hot side. so now i need to rebuild the damn thing. Good i got it for $75 and it came with ss oil line, manifold, o2 housing, J-pipe, and o2 sensor...

I seen a rebuild kit on dsmgraveyard for $39 would this be what i need?

And i would follow Jusmx141 thread on how to rebuild a turbo.

Heres a few pics of the turbo,

Can't go wrong for the price. If it were mine I'd rebuild it anyway just to be sure it's not full of metal or something else that the previous owner failed to mention.

Just for the record, a turbine seal is like a piston ring- it will leak oil past depending on how the turbo is sitting, even with a new seal. :thumb:

CXRacing garbage. Their turbos are made in China- I'd imagine their rebuild kits are too. You can try the kits from TraderGreg on eCrater, or I can set you up with all of the parts including Genuine MHI journal bearings and seals.

Not a bad piece for sure- I see an upgraded 34mm wastegate flapper as well. Shouldn't have any issues with boost creep on this unit.

Got a kit and I'm doing it myself.
The 16G wheels are balanced to each other from the factory.
Make sure you mark the alignment of the compressor wheel, locknut, and turbine shaft if there are balance grinds on the locknut. If there are no balance grinds you can align the wheels however you want.

;)
Did that.
I've picked your brain many times in regards to my rebuild. I need to finish pulling it apart and have it cleaned for now.
