Is this a 2.0 or 1.8?

rippin out my motor for the turbo swap and a buddy told me that this engine looks like a 1.8 but I thought the 1.8 dohc was a japanese motor. If you can tell what it is by looking at the picture hit me back. thanks

oh yeah, the build date on the car is January 1993 if that matters.

It is actually stamped on the side of the head and on the front of the block close to the alternator!!

I deffenitley believe it to be a 2.0 4g63 7 bolt. actually there only 1998cc to be exact.

And the 1.8L wasn't a DOHC or turbocharged, it was a N/T SOHC.

Do you mean 4G37? That's the 1.8L Engine code. 4G37's came in the Eclipse base and SOHC GS models (1990-1994), as well as the lower model Lasers (1990-1994) and the Talon DLs (1993-1994).

well, it's a 4g67 for sure. Does anyone know if the ECU and trannies are the same in the 1.8 DOHC and 2.0. If not I'm gonna blow this thing up.

Also it doesn't have a red valve cover like most jdm motors so that would make it a US engine, and a 7 bolt at that wouldn't it?

ECU for 4G63 can be used with some minor wire works but the stock ECU for the 4G67 has an 8,000 rpm cutoff so if you have that then it would be better.

Trannies bolt up the same but I believe they have different ratios with the tranny on the 4G67 geared more for accelleration.

Red Top 4G63's are turbo motors from the Galant VR4 RS models. What you have is a non turbo engine. Not all JDM 4G63 turbo engines come with a red top.

You are not exact enought
All 4g63 stock engines are 1997cc or 121.86 cubic inch.
The 420A NA is 1996cc..etc

I ripped out the ECU and the number on it was MD166255 which is for the 2.0. The injector tops are not all blue, the outside two are and the middle two are black (wtf). There is also only three vacuum holes, not four. So to sum it up the block says 4g67, the ECU is for a 2.0 that ran the 1.8 flawlessly and I imagine that this engine would be a 7 bolt. Am I correct?

Haven't tried it but what I know is that 4G63T's come with a 225mm flywheel while n/t's come with a 215mm flywheel. Not sure if the bellhousings would match.

You talking about the color of the top molded injector body or the connectors attaching to the injectors? The color of the connectors to the injectors doesn't mean anything.

the o2 sensor is in the wrong location also...wouldn't really work well
