is there a non turbo eprom?!?!?

hey there people,

well i went to the junkyard looking for a ecu for a friend of mine. i found two but......one of them had the eprom in it, lucky me right? , well the car where i found the eprom in didnt had the motor in it anymore soo i couldnt find out if it was from a turbo or not. it was a talon 94. i see the hood and it said that the motor displacement was a 2.0, so that i know, non automatic. now i take the ecu that i have on my laser and this new ecu is missing the knock board, (i think thats what is called) everything else looks the same except for that extra board on the top right corner with a black dot in the middle . i got a pic of the one i got form the yard.

my question is.....will this ecu work on my laser?

You need the knock board to use this one you turbo car, other ecus did come eprom that werent turbo. I know of some places adding the knock board on to a non turbo ecu. I would contact Thomas at DSMLink and see if he can convert it for you. If anyone would know he would.

Sweet sweet, I just thought it was weird haha, but anyways, does this make a difference on non turbo models? Like lil more torque or something? I know I does on turbo models, regulates a lot of stuff better and stuff. So does it? Make a difference on na models?

Also, if I take my turbo ecu and the eprom one will a radioshack place be able to swap the knock plate? Because I don't wana mess up my ecu. The eprom ecu is clean clean. No leaks at all. I like it

That is a non turbo eprom, they can be converted to a turbo eprom with the addition of a knock board and changing some jumpers and resistors. The only thing that makes an eprom ecu better is that you can remove the factory eprom chip and replace it with a custom chip for your setup.

No, there are other drivers that need to be installed, ic 104, ic 106, different resistors and caps for the injector drivers, and a host of different resistors and jumpers, to tell the cpu it is now on a turbo board with the knock board. You will also need a turbo eprom chip, either one from a stock turbo ecu, or a custom eprom chip.

Sorry to break your heart but by the time you spend the money on labor and parts to convert it to a turbo ecu, you'll have spent more money than if you had just bought a turbo ecu.

I don't know about that, burned out turbo ecu's are pretty cheap, and non turbo ecu's are next to nothing.

Who in here doesn't have a turbo car? And I actually have 2 turbo ecus I can work with plus this non turbo eprom.
