Is the center diff the transfer case?

I don't want to get this wrong so I will ask a stupid question....is the center diff another name for the transfer case? Planning on getting a Shep Stage 3 trans and it says it comes with a 4 spider center diff....would this be the transfer case? Or would I need to take the t-case out and replace the internals with the 4 spider diff? Not sure I'm understanding....

It's not in the transfer case .it's in the transmission itself

The output shaft that runs to the transfer case is connected to the center diff and VCU located in the transmission.

Sounds like it's time to read the 1G Technical Manual.

With a welded center diff, it can't be used for street driving right?

Also, will the stock transfer case hold 400whp?

It CAN. Makes for a slight nuisance in parking lots and tight corners, but definitely 100% streetable. In sharp corners, one wheel will chirp slightly.
