Is it worth swapping a T04b housing to T04e?

I have a new Bullseye T04b 50 trim. They didn't have a T04e option without getting a 57 trim and I've heard nothing but ill about those turbos. So I'm just wondering with all else being equal if it's worth getting the bigger housing performance-wise? This turbo is still rated 450 whp, but I really like how the T04e housing looks more impressive. If it offers more gains then I'd be tempted to swap it out.

I included some pics since I haven't seen many posts about Bullseye turbos on the forums. I went with this turbo instead of PTE/SCM because I like the custom mitsu turbine housing, the ss components, the Borg Warner cartridge which is supposed to be more advanced than PTE/SCM, and of course price.

If you are going to trying to max out the 50 trim turbo then yes the T04E cover would be worth swapping out, but if you are just going to be street driving it then there is really no advantage.

Really? I thought since the core would be unmolested it wouldn't need re-balancing. If that's the case then it's clearly not worth the expense and anyone who really wants a T04e should just go PTE instead. After this turbo I'll be going bigger anyway, so that's probably the more cost-effective route.

I still don't understand why Bullseye doesn't offer their 50 trim in T04e cover though and only the 57/60 trim. I'll ask them on their forums.

Yeah I think you guys are right. I've been meeting several other 2G owners with large turbos (GT40, 60-1) so maybe that skewed my expectations. I just thought my turbo would be bigger. :D Well, I guess it's some consolation that I saw an Evo 16G for the first time in person and was shocked how small it was (like my BT28!) based on its reputation. Glad I didn't bother going that route. Don't get me wrong, this 50 trim looks twice as large as my BT28 but you know what I mean.

Yea defently don't let outside apperance base your decision on the performance. I was like, "what the hell..." when I got my evoIII as externally its no larger then a t25 but obviously packs a much much larger punch. Sure a larger comp cover will let you max it out but comp cover size isn't then end all be all. The to4b 50 trim will be a nice stepping stone that will keep you happy until you descide to take the step to the next level.

You are going to love that 50 trim! There seems to be some good advice in this thread by some of the more knowledgable people on this board... I would just bolt it on and fall in love.
BTW, I held that turbo and it is a NICE peice. I was very impressed with it.

Since we are talking about this turbo does anyone know the size of the inlet hole for the oil feed... it is bigger then the fittings in the kit he got from dejon... It seems as if the Borg-Warner center section is setup just a little bit differant...

Frank, I already handled that. Went to Ace hardware and got me a fitting of the right size for $1. It's all good to go now! :D

David Hall of Bullseye responded to my question (subject of this thread). Looks like they'll be offering T04E option later only because of requests:

We really dont feel its necessary to sell a T04E 50 trim since the T04B cover is big enough for even a 60-1. T04E's are more difficult to install in tight places as well as cause additional lag. However, there has been some demand for the T04E so we plan to incorporate it in our catalog later this year.

That is pretty cool, it looks like they have good customer service and are going to meet the demands of there market

The fitting you got... it is a 90 degree to -4an right? It fits the oil feed line right?

Yeah the elbow is the same. All I did was get a step up so it would fit the hole. I think all I need now is a 3"-3" coupler for the intake pipe to turbo.

The oil inlet is a 1/4"NPT. You can get that fitting at Home Depot. Got to the plumbing section and look in the brass fittings. It is fitting # A80.
