Is it possible to check the Crank timing mark without taking off the lower cover?

I can't figure out why my turbo is all of a sudden not able to spool properly at low rpm and then creeps on high rpm when it never did this before. If I floor it at 2500 rpm the turbo will slowly spool to about 13 or 14 psi (running with no mbc, actuator only) but I can tell it's not spinning fast enough to push any air. Then at 4500 or 5000 it creeps fast up to 18 or 19 psi. Both my cam gears are aligned but I don't know how to check the crank and I really, really, really am sick of doing dsm timing belts and I don't want to remove the cover.

Well, the best way and most accurate way to check the timing marks is to pull the lower cover. However, you could align the cam gears and check to see that the timing mark on the crank pulley is at the TDC mark on the timing tab. Again, it's not the most accurate, but if you don't want to remove the cover it is possible.

I just came from working on the pos. My timing is not at 5* anyway it's at like 2 or 3* right now for safety reasons so I don't think I can use the timing tab TDC method. I started tinkering after I read some posts about timing mark alignment. I used a straight edge on my cam gears and I couldn't line up the marks. If I line up the outside marks it looks like both the inside marks are off by 1/2 tooth. Is that even possible? I haven't even checked the crank yet but I'm in the process of tearing it down right now, I'll be done in like 45 minutes and report my findings.

I put my base timing back to 5* and the white line lined up perfectly with TDC as were my cam gears aligned with the center of the bolts. I guess it wasn't a problem after all.
