Is it possible to get the engine to operating temperature without driving it?

I am doing some testing for warm oil pressure and can't drive the car right now.

Is there any way to get the vehicle up to true operating temperature so that I can check the oil pressure at warm idle without moving it?

Many thanks!!

<--------No but someone who grew up in Iowa for 20 years would. And the black smoke comes more from loose carbon buildup on the pistons. If you are getting fuel in your oil, then oil into the combustion chamber to smoke out your exhaust your problems are greater than just letting your car idle too long.

I read somewhere that 30% of the fuel injected is used for cooling the charge.. I saw an experiment with an evo and meth injection where they were getting up to 45 mpg's because they were using the meth to cool the charge and not the additional fuel normally injected into the cylinder. I guess I don't understand why our cars still read around stoich if there is extra fuel...Any ideas?

Yeah, that black smoke was because the excess gas washed down the walls which killed the lubrication and the rings scratched up the walls. Engines in cop cars are usually beat hard enough to reseal the rings. I don't think someone from arizona will quite understand the temperature difference and how it affects engine wear.

You still are off by a lot . LEtting a car warm up by idling is safe this is why we have sensors so it can monitor the way it will burn gasoline. When a car is warming up its usually in open loop where it ignores all sensors except the crank , cam, and ECT untill it gets to operating temp which varies and usually around 180-210 then it turns to closed loop .. SO even though its ignoring the sensors and runniong rich its doing that to warm the car up then it will start monitoring sensors to keep it at stoich And obviously it will vary in every car but still what ever u said b4 makes it sound like u should let your car warm up by idling so im not sure if your saying it right

This isn't a SBC with a Holley on it.

My point exactly, cylinder washing @idle only happened on old cars with carbs, the metering done by todays ECMs and invention of O2 sensors and fuel injection greatly helped to monitor the AFR more accurately. (As compared to tuning with a 5-gas analyser)
You pretty much covered all the other points I was going to make.:thumb:

Change your oil and filter, let your car idle for an hour, or however long you think it takes to get fuel to saturate the cylinder walls and contaminate the oil. Then send an oil sample for analysis.
Blow-by is what contaminates oil with fuel.
Fue/blow-byl in small amounts will not scratch cylinder walls, esp. idling.

OP where is your oil pressure gauge sending unit mounted? Just curious.
Everything sounds like your in good shape.

Good that is a relief! :D It is mounted at the oil filter housing.
