run a new turbo engine without a turbo for break-in? I know it won't be too quick. Will it hurt anything?

no i cant see how it would hurt anything but its gonna be slower than a damn geo metro. with that low of compression it will take you 20 min to get to 60mph. just go ahead and put the turbo on and hook the turbo directly to the wastegate so you are running the lowest boost possible and dont give it hell.

Why do you want to break in your motor without the turbo? do you not have a turbo to put on it yet, or are you worried something will happen to it? well for either case, if you're that worried about it look on ebay and invest on a cheap used 14b, you can get one for usually between 100 and 200 bucks shipped, maybe cheaper. If you're only gonna use it for start up and break in who cares about the condition it's in, its still better than no turbo. and you can re-sell it back on ebay for probably a similar price. As long as you prime the turbo and motor properly, set the boost to a low/modest level (below 10 lbs), dont beat the tar out of it, and follow the proper oil change schedule for breaking in a motor(if you need to know more info on any of these, search or ask) you'll be fine...almost everyone that's ever done a rebuild or new motor has done it with their turbo on..the only advice i would say is dont use a brand new expensive unit with a new motor, its rare but things can happen and its a shame to waste all that money. Also where are you going to get all the n/t exhaust parts youll need? you'll have to change out half the damn exhaust. give us some more info about why you want to not use the turbo.
