Is it a blown headgasket?

Hey guys let me tell you what happened, just got in from messing with the car...

Ok went to start today - had to crank over a TON to get started... Like 7-8 shots, finally turns over and stays running...

Driving for about an hour or so on the highway. Under full throttle, at 5K RPM it would hesitate/misfire like crazy - run like complete crap while driving around for the hour. Everything up to 4800RPM, uner 100% throttle is perfect, at 5k - MISFIRE!

Get into city - stop and go driving for about 15min... Push clutch in for a stop sign, car stalls, fire it back up - car stalls again... Tried cranking over like 100 times - nothing, just cranking.

She's getting fuel - can smell at rail, and the pump is whining (Walbro255). She's getting spark, tested that. MAS plug is all set, no vacuum lines off, etc...

Didn't have any tools, pushed it to the side of the road, left it there. I returned about 1/2 hr later with the sockets and stuff I needed to pull the plugs...

Now I gave it a shot when I returned, and with the gas pedal floored, she fired up. However, I notice some white smoke from the exhuast. Not to much, but even at 800RPM idle, there was a faint white smoke coming constantly. Temp outside was about 50deg or so... Let it warm up, revved it, same thing, the higher the rev, more white smoke - but not like a TON, but its a little - constant.

However, I topped off coolant like 3-4 days ago, and it seemed like it hadn't leaked much when I checked it today, probably not more than like a 1/4 quart or so was added when I topped it off.

PLUGS: They are completely BLACK... I don't what else I can tell you guys... I'll be heading back there tomorrow to investigate further... Any opinions or information to help me figure out whats going on would be GREAT.

Thanks! :dsm:

I thought if it was burning oil, it would be bluish smoke?

Also - if you have a bad HG - does coolant/oil definately mix reguardless?

Thanks!

Not always. you can blow out just a piece of the gasket between a cylinder/cylinder or a cylinder/water jacket.

pull some coolant out and take a look at it. it should be lime green. if there is any speck of oil in it, then its a headgasket. also, pull the radiator cap off and start it up. if there is any bubbles coming up, thats also a sign. (just make sure to shut the car off if when it starts to overflow) you will know if its bubbling, it looks like someone has an air gun in there. good luck
