is a turbo rebuild DEF gonna fix this?

ok so my car is smoking blue like all hell and ive pinpointed that its the turbo td05, i checked the shaft and there is a lot of in and out play and a little side to side but the turbo still works and boosts. Will a rebuild def fix my problem? i checked the teeth and they all seem to be fine but this is just feeling (the turbo is still on the car) thanks in advance guys.

ps i know this is a stupid question but theres only one td05 turbo right? I dont want to get the wrong kit

theres actually quite a few turbos in the tdo5 housing. i think you just gotta worry about having a 14b or 16g(examples) seeing as though 16gs are a super back while the 14b is a flat back. with that said most kits are for both and will rebuild any tdo5 (from the ones i have seen) good luck and it should help with your smoking it deff wont hurt

In/out play wears the turbine seal is thin as a sheet of paper because the shaft moves within the seal- the seal stays fixed in the housing. In some cases, extreme in/out play can wear the turbine seal until there is nothing left at all....which results in oil dumping into your turbine housing.

Now for the bad news- if your turbo has a ton of in/out play, the turbo is probably junk. It only takes a little in/out play before the wheels rub the housings, and this grinding will rub the compressor exducer away to nothing. If you rebuild the turbo without replacing the wheels there will be a huge gap between the compressor wheel and the housing, ruining the turbo's efficiency.
