Put these sweet UICP and LICP in and took it for a ride and it was hitting 14psi and pulling good and half way through the little test drive, it started making this crazy loud rattling noise... and is blowing clouds of blue/white smoke...

Any ideas what this could be? See video for details...

btw this is my roommates car...

Sounds like the turbo shaft broke or the copressor nut came off(dont ask how I know this soundOMG ). Pull off the intake pipe and check out the compressor wheel. You will probably find it bouncing around in the compressor housing.

That could be a possibility, but it seems like its coming from the left side of the engine, around the cam area..?

I agree...

Took the pipe off, the turbo shaft is definately fux0red...

So what would be a good replacement turbo? Nothing huge, but something that will be able to support a few mods in the future.. like exhaust and higher boost, fuel, etc..

Thanks for the help guys...

Very quick diagnosis on that Keith

MHI Evo 3 16G, and please get it from a reputable company like SBr, not some Ebay knock-off. Good post Defiant:p :D

One last question on this. Looking at gettin a evo3 16g and a 2g install kit from turbochargers.com... this all came to 650$ shipped...

Do I need anything else or should I be covered now..?

That should do it. You do know that they have the 2g solution kit on sale for $699 right now dont you. You get a choice of the mhi s16g, b16g, evo3, or their evo3gt turbo. This also includes the 2g install kit and their gt exhaust manifold. I personally would go this route then you would have a new manifold that flows more and wouldnt need to be ported.

I'd do that, but it says(if you go to the gt manifold) it does not fit automatics.. which is what this would be going on.

On a 2g, the manifold is the same, auto or 5 spd. When they state "does not fit automatic", they are really stating that it doesnt fit 1g auto with stock turbo.
