Intermitent Speedometer issues

Having a problem on my 2G turbo where the speedometer will intermittently drop and read 0, or will sometimes give a reading that is obviously not accurate. When the speedometer reads 0, both the odometer and trip fail to advance or advance very slowly.

Any thoughts? Do I just need to throw a new part at it?
