Hey guys well I have a very annoying problem on my 91 TSI. No matter what I do My foot lights and ignition ring light ALLWAYS stays on. It doesnt matter if the key is in or not or if the car is on or not. I bought the car like this not realizing it. I know the car use to have an alarm and the guy just ripped it off due to the horn not stopping from honking.:beatentodeath: What do you guys think? Any ideaS where I should start, what to test? Its getting really anoyin to disconnect my battery every time so the lights wont drain it.:notgood:

get some wire diagrams of the interior accessories, its more than likely the common ground or maybe even your little sensor thing that tell the car the door is shut. if all else fails you could always cut the wires going to them thats just my 2 cents.

+1 on the door switches.

Kinda funny as most peoples lights DON'T come on when the door opens.

The switch is a very simple assembly and start by disconnecting one at a time until both are out to see if the switch itself is shorted causing a closed circuit.

The deck lid is where I'd start (trunk lid). I used to have this problem, also. I discovered it was the switch in the deck lid. I don't suggest cutting wires. I can't remember, but doesn't the dash dimmer switch also turn the foot lights on/off? Good luck.

All my dimmer switch controls is instrument panel, thermostat controls, and I'm sure at one point in time the radio.

Although mine could be partially broken also so take this with a grain of salt.

i had this problem with my 93 gs. remover your steering colum cover and take your ignition lock out. there is a small black button facing the center console. detach the wires if you dont want it to turn on or replace or clean the button with rubbing alcohol. mine was sticking from it beeing old and nasty coated. i hope this helps i know it helped me.

Where is the hatch switch that controls these lights coming on and off when you open/close hatch?
