What intercooler setup do you guys suggest? I'm going to be getting a ported evo 16g with a full 3" turboback and 3.5" GM MAF so what fmic setup should i get? I'm not reall sure about the piping mostly. I don't what to hack up my front end to fit a huge intercooler down there. My goal is about 320whp.

Thanks for any tips,
Elight

I think most people on here will tell you to get the Supra Sidemount intercooler, it has supported over 400 whp on supras. Here is the vfaq for the install on your vehicle - go to www.vfaq.com then intake and scroll down and it's the sixth one right after the intercooler heading. There it will show you the specifics about the install. You can see the obvious difference in size b/w the stock SMIC and the supra SMIC. I believe that you need to get the specific model from an MKIV Supra. They are normally cheap (less than or about $200 and they will cool enough air to make that 320whp.

What FMIC do you have on your ride? Also, where'd you get it from and how much? It looks awesome on your ride, too.

its a street imports core i believe it measures 24 x 12 x 2.5 they sell them for like $400 for the universal core. you have to fabricate your own intercooler pipes. Some people say that it isn't the best core in the world but it's perfect for me, I have an Evo 3 16G with supporting mods @20psi and it cools my air charge and prevents detonation just fine.

I am looking into getting a FMIC soon... but to answer your question [Elight]... I was looking into the 16g and a lot of people were telling me you can run that off the stcok SMIC... I am not a 100% sure about that, but I am looking into a FMIC no matter what turbo I end up with.. either the 16g, 20g, or 5o trim... If you are ever planning on going larger than the 16g, I'd suggest a FMIC... Good luck...

You will heatsoak a stock SMIC with a 16G, get a FMIC for most performance.

While I personally don't like the Supra SMIC, If you get it or a FMIC at least upgrade to 2.5 inch IC pipes.

Agreed. imho, you will heatsoak the smic even with a 14b if you push it hard enough.

If you're serious about taking it to the track, or just romping around, i think you should consider a FMIC. Can never have enough cool air in case, you know?

well i looked into the supra sidemount and i decided that I'm not going to go that route because it seems like it might be a lot of trouble. I'm going to get a FMIC so I can get the most out of the 16g, that and FMIC's look pretty sweet :thumb: I looked around and I can't really figure out what to do about the piping. What makes shorting piping better? Can someone with mods similar to my goals tell me what intercooler setup you are running?

Thanks for the responses,

I would venture to guess that the shorter piping means less lag, say you have a 50' garden hose and a 100' garden hose, the 100' is going to take twice as long to fill and get water out the end then the 50'. they will have the same volume and pressure but the time it takes to pressurize the entire setup will be longer if the pipes are longer. correct me if i'm wrong or missed something

That would seem logical. Short direct piping also minimizes the twists and turns airflow has to take. wouldnt want to rape teh airflow, would you?

slowboy racing is the best IMO. Its only like $500 for the core and like $800 for the whole kit.
