I know I’ve been spamming the boards and I do apologize. It’s just the info for this 4g64/4g63 DOHC swap is really all over the place with many sites being dead, and so much contradictory information out there.
It’s really difficult for me to ascertain what’s good or what’s bad info.

I am pretty much set on getting and installing a 16G turbo. Definitely not an EBay one. And don’t want one that is used and requires a rebuild. I do understand it’s a premium cost for what I’m asking for.

But I digress. This post is for some advice on intercooler options for this setup. Either a front mount (behind bumper) or some other mount where it’s not sticking out the front is what I am looking for.

Preferably a kit that comes with all required pipes and fittings for a 16G (if that exists), minus an exhaust manifold ( I already have a ported 4g63 exhaust manifold on order).

I am pretty sure I’m missing a ton. I’m just a hobbyist mechanic, far from pro. These DSM’s are pretty darn complex.

Any suggestions?

What is your horsepower goal? One option is that you could get a side mount intercooler from another DSM and then get an aluminum piping kit. I'm running this piping kit along with an aluminum 1g BOV, and they work for me and my stock intercooler. With a 16G though you'll also need an install kit. That being said though, stock 2G intercoolers are a horsepower bottleneck if you want to run more than 300 horsepower to the wheels. So if you want more than that, then a front-mount is your best option because there are pretty much 0 aftermarket side-mount intercoolers for our cars (unfortunately).

Also, I read up on your car's profile. The thing looks really nice. It looks like your dad took great care of it 🙂

This may sound dumb but to be honest I don’t have an exact target HP goal.
Maybe 250-300 I suppose.
My goal is better than stock, which is just horribly weak. And whatever the stock lower internals can handle without being abused.

I’m not trying g to be combative, but can anyone tell me what is good about the RTM FMIC compared to cheaper non-branded alternatives?
Is there a cheaper non-branded alternative that comes with a piping kit like you requested? I’m not a 2g guy, I honestly don’t know.

RTM’s kit is suppose to be the equivalent to the former VRSF kit, which was well known as the better brand of “affordable” intercooler kits. Next step up goes ETS, Buscher, etc. someone correct me if I’m wrong please.

I did see some eBay knock off kits. CXRacing being one.
Definitely leaning towards what was suggested with the RTM. We usually get what we pay for.

I was honestly just curious on why they are so highly recommended. I suppose some people here have used this kit and had good results?
