So I was driving down the road on Thursday and noticed smoke coming from underneath my hood, glanced at my temp gauge and it was 240. So I pulled into a parking lot immediately popped my hood and saw the upper radiator hose blew off. Well the neck of the radiator where the hose attaches to broke off.

My question is what determines a good radiator and a junk one. I'm recently laid off so cheapest would be great. But I dont wanna go cheap if its junk. Is an eBay radiator or advanced autozone radiator sufficient? Hopefully people will have experience with them and can chime in.

Thanks!

I would try and score a used aftermarket in the classifieds. There are a lot of good brands. I would find one in the classified, research it, and buy it if it checks out.

I would definitely get one that you can trust like a Fluidyne. You don't want to blow a headgasket.

Cx racing has some pretty affordable radiators. Cxracing has a bunch on eBay as well. Make sure you have decent fans, a good thermostat, and you should be good to go. My old stock one actually blew off at the neck like you are talking about and covered me in 200 degree coolant. The stock plastic just doesn't cut it.

I saw a Fluidyne sell for $150. The good radiators are out there...

I sold my.fluidyne for 185 shipped. There are definately deals to be had. As long as its a 2row metal radiator you shouldn't have problems.

I'm a big fan of OEM replacement radiators. Personally, I'd either get one from the dealer, or find a stock replacement from NAPA or equalivalent. FWIW I got a brand new 1g radiator from NAPA for less than $150, and my cooling system has never worked as well as it is now. For all you know, you were still running on a 21 year old radiator and can expect a decent gain by replacing it with another OEM style unit thats 21 years newer.

As far as full size radiators go fluidyne really is hard to beat, expensive yes but amazing product. I have had 3 of them and never had an overheating problem. If I could have fit one I would have used one.

Buy a radiator online from advance auto parts. I just bought one and my temps are now between 175 and 195.

The have free shipping on orders over $75 and if you spend over $125(which it will be) they take $25 off of the price as long as you enter the coupon code at the top of the screen when checking out..

Thanks a ton for all the input! Since I was in a pinch and needed one quick and rather cheap, I went with CxRacing one. I did some research on here and from what I heard everyone was more than happy with them. Hopefully I will too.
