I'm looking at buying a bigger intercooler for my 90 Talon Awd yet with so many shops not telling the same thing. I would like some straight answers. Who makes a very good intercooler???

I would like a short route blow throught, 28-30" wide and keep my bumper. Now here's the other part of the problem. I'm going to installing a 2.4 with a 20G in the late summer. A 7" intercooler looks great with a 2.0 but will I run out of cooling with the 2.4? A 10" looks good for the 2.4 but even if I do make a small cut out in the bumper 4"s are still hidden behind the plastic.

My Talon is mainly used for hill climbs(tarmac), open road racing(high speed 120mph+ for 80 miles) and some autocrossing.

Any help would be great. My feel is Do it once and do it right.

Thanks all

T.

7" tall isn't going to cut it. I would look at the Buschur or the Victory performance intercoolers. The SBR intercooler is pretty popular, but the end tank design is a little weird. I wouldn't worry too much about the top 4" of the intercooler being behind the bumper.

I reccomend picking up a copy of Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, there is a ton of good information in there about intercoolers. I bought an intercooler, then I bought the book. If I had the book first I wouldn't have picked the same intercooler.

i would recommend something like a 20-24" wide, 8-10" tall and no more than 3" thick. With your needs you want maximum flow to the radiator so i would stay at 3" thickness. If you are going to run 20psi plus i would say go with a bar and plate or extruded tube core. Something that will be able to cool your charge well.

best of luck to you

Thanks so much for the info.

I have read parts of the book. I will will go looking for the book again.

What is the best and cleanest way to notch out the bumper?

Thanks

A plasma cutter works KILLER!! Not everyone can use one of those. So the next thing would be a Sawzall and maybe a die grinder with a cutting wheel in it.
