So I know with dsms youre supposed to or its recommended to recirculate the bov. However I know alot of people that run their cars with just an intake filter on the turbo for more air flow. What I am curious to know is, are there any people out there that have done this with there dsm? Or would you really loose that much power?

Thanks

DSM's will not run with out the mass air flow sensor. Unless they are running a mass air flow translator with a gm mass air flow sensor. Or they are running a speed density set up.

wait, you know people with dsm's that run without a maf?:hmm:
without a way to meter incoming air, you really don't have a running car LOL. whether it's a speed density(map) or maf. and yes, it's recommended to recirculate the bov because air has already been metered and factored in so the ecu knows how much fuel the engine needs for proper comboooostion.

You have probably seen someone running a GM Maf setup, which puts the air metering device between the turbo and the throttle body. You cannot just disconnect the stock maf, it will run like shit. Also, always recirculate, unless your running a maf between the turbo and the throttle body. Trust me, your car will ide like crap and want to die out.

bomper04 no I havent seem any DSM's running like that but quite a few other cars, I had a feeling it wasnt the best idea but I thought I should hear out a few opinions. Thanks for all the good information, looks like ill be making a custom intake here soon!

Thanks guys!

yea, it's not the best idea if you're running the stock setup. it'll sound cool, but like stated it's gonna run crappy! goodluck on the custom intake!

If you want to run just a filter on your turbo it's a bad as stated above.
Even if you did have a gm maf setup, let's assume this, i would recommend running an intake, why ? Heat.
Heat tends to obviously rob you some power, even if it's 1or 2 hp, every little bit counts !
So if you want to vent, get a gm maf setup and make sure you run an intake and not open turbo or filter on the turbo.

I run just a window screen on mine... Im making an intake tonight LOL..

quick ?....if you are trying to just run the bov open you can do that...IF you know how to drive well it wont be a problem. You will have to control the idle with the gas pedal yourself so that it doesnt stall. And if you plan to run a MAF Translator do not put a filter on the turbo put a small metal screen type of material and use a clamp to make it stay on.

Are you asking if this is ok or saying to do it?

You should never make your own "screen filter" unless you really know what you're doing, and even then I wouldn't do it unless I used the car for track-only purposes.

Also running a filter on the end of your turbo creates very high intake temps as already mentioned. Don't do it unless you're using water/meth injection, water to air IC, or running e85.

Really as long as the intake pipe isn't a smaller diameter than the turbo inlet it would always be beneficial to use an intake pipe, even if you had the above mods.

No i wasnt saying put the filter on there but i was saying use a screen....what else would you use? Im not sure thats why i am asking. I have seen a lot of people do that so thats why i said that. Def dont run it open right?
