Intake, MAF - upgrade now or can wait?

Hello all...
1990 Talon.
Got my XFer case changed under the recall...
Right now is on stands, with intake/exhaust out ...
Have FMIC, new mani, new used turbo... (T3/T4) - friend is rebuilding...

Reading up here, talked to few guys in RL... Everyone talks about GM MAFT...
My question is should I get it right now or can it wait? For me GM MAFT is more advanced tuning/upgrades that I don't want to get involved yet... How can I use (if I can at all) my factory MAFT. Or is it bad idea? What should I be using now? I'm kind of lost now...
I checked FAQ forum, and I have tech guide printed out... Still not sure about this particular issue...

Which T3/T4? Your 1g maf will be just fine with the stock fuel system, your turbo however is probably too big for your setup.

so, for MAFT i just use whatever I had OEM to connect to the KNtype of cone on one end and the pipe on the other... ok... just needed to hear it from someone else...

Turbo... heh... dun't know about all those trims and other smart words... We took it off Volvo 760 and buddy of mine going to rebuild it for me... changing some parts along the way... he said i'd have t3/4. No reason not to believe him... he's better then me in that... (lamer smily goes in here).

I am going to go much further with my setup, i don't have too much time on my hands for hte car yet... Also, it is not my dayly driver, so it can hang in the garage for a while...


I am planning on getting bigger fuel pump, injectors, fpr... Would I need GM MAFT then?

Yes if you plan on getting a bigger fuel setup you will need something to compensate for them. The gm maft can do that for you but it is not the best to tune with. It doesn't have as small as increments to tune with say the safc does, or better yet the LINK!! Do some searches about what you want to tune your setup with and how much you are willing to spend. Then determine if the bigger mas is necessary. The 1g mas should be fine for right now the 2g mas can outflow a 1g by a lot and you can compensate for that with just the safc, but for the gm (which outflows both) you will need the $200 translator. It all depends on what your goals are.

so, you are saying that ...
1. I can use my MAF, and I will be fine.
2. I can use 2G maf, but I need this SAFC. Better flow then 1, but not as good as...
3. GM MAF+translator... Best (?) flow of them all, but not as flexible in tuning as 2.
LINK is a DSMLink logger? little foggy here for now... too much to read...

My goal (again, not set yet, but I think it is realistic) is around 350HP. Car will be a street driver...

Money are not that big of the problem, however, i am still on the budget... Can't drop 15G at once to do the car... But don't mind spending nearly as much (minus paint job and fancy seats/shifter/stearing wheel/etc) over some period of time...

Generally speaking, I am planning to do Stage I with some elements from Stage II.:
*intake pipe and filter;
*boost gauge and other gauges for monitoring
*Boost controller
*3' exhaust system
*Tubular exh mani
*bigger turbo
*Fuel pump/injectors
*FMIC / piping

Pump and Injectors are on the back burner for now, along with the dataloggers and such...
