It is kinda ruff paying the insurance on a car that nice when you're still in school and only have a part time job. But beleive me, it's well worth it when you pull into the student parking lot and look around at all the other cars, LOL. You wouldn't beleive how much my car shines when it's sitting out there...none of the other cars even compare:D . And even more gratifying is to be able to tell every one that not only do i pay the insurance, but i payed every last cent that bought that car out of my pocket, no help from mommy or daddy  . So yeah, it's ruff paying what we do, but it sure as heck pays off if your g/f decides to break up w/ you ;) .

LOL, im writting this in school and this guy (who i don't even know) just walked by and he's like "man, that's one tight ride you've got!"...that's what i mean about it paying for itself ;)

why won't my sig and stuff change??? I went under my profile and changed them b/c i am no longer looking for a car...i have it. But every time i change it, it is the same old one the next time i get on

I got quoted 1,800 a year for the state minimum here in cali on a 90 gsx im 19 and have 2 tickets on my record. try progressive.com and get a online quote.

I would think that the roll cage would be a HUGE red flag to your insurance company that you race your car. If you are street racing like you say, then it might be a good idea for YOUR safety to have one HOWEVER it DOES NOT protect all the other drivers from YOU! I say keep it at the track. Also I think that if you do tell your insurance company that you have a rollcage then they may actually RAISE your rates.

ye i see your guys point. my friend said his friend installed one and they lowered the rates. i pretty much wanna get one for MY saftey. i dont race on a street unless its closed off / late at night. i dunno weather i want one or not and if it will actually be alot safer.

If anything I would think a roll cage would raise your insurance rate. Racing is a huge risk that I doubt any insurance company would accept.

an insurance company may raise your rate possibly, but i would probably see it more as a reason to drop your coverage. definitely get it for your safety but i wouldn't mention anything to insurance. i'll ask my brother about it, i know there is a tuner here who is an insurance agent, i can't remember off hand who it is though.

I gotta throw a BS flag at your boy. There is no way they lowered his rates. either he is lieing to you or his parents pay for his insurance any ways.

Rates are alot more complicated then just saying "I got a roll cage"

insurance rep" o great, we''ll just knock off a few bucks from your payment. Have a great day"

Its just silly and insurance will never cover you on track grounds or if doing something illegal like street racing, the only thing they will do is drop you. :)

this is straight from an insurance agent....

they may take action by making him drive the vehicle over to his agent for a visual inspection, maybe make him sign some type of non-racing agreement that will not pay for any damage if found he was racing. Worst case scenario, they could send the file to underwriting for reviewal. They can do a lot of things depending. You don't want to give the insurance company any reason to doubt you

yea i herd about a dude who crashed his viper at the local drag striped and insurance wouldnt cover it, sucks to be him:D for what he prob paid for his car, i think i could have bought 300 dsms for what i paid for mine. heh dirt cheap

If you street race, just get some monkey bars. They are cheaper and will give you the same desired effect.

How much should I expect to pay for insurance on a 1g and on 2g. Both would be all wheel turbo. Im 19 and have one ticket on my record from two years ago. Is there a big price diffrence. Any rough numbers would help! Thanks guys!!

Try this thread for starters: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29798&highlight=getting+insurance

I'm not sure about the insurance difference between 1g and 2g's. I'm sure the price quotes are very similar (all other variables being equal.) Try websites like www.progressive.com or www.allstate.com - you can get insurance quotes (in your area) for different cars; plug in say a 1995 Talon TSi AWD, then a 1990 Talon TSi AWD, and just see which one comes out with a higher premium... That might work...?

Good luck with the insurance. :thumb:
