buy a beater and find a local insurance company to back you upsaw wave analog said:you got it.
the only deal you are going to get is if you have everything in your parents name and can be listed on their policy. 19 on your own with a perfect record would still be more than its worth for a new car, with 2 serious violations like speed contests you are just ####ed. sorry man. keep your grades above 3.0 and that is a huge discount, just rock a liability only older car and spend your money on things that matter. like beer and girls
im an agent with a large insurance company, and i can tell you now that everything you know about insuring cars is myth. 2 doors vs 4 doors, paint color, engine size dont have nearly as much impact on the vehicles rating as its statistical likelyhood to be involved in an accident does. best example of this, it would probably be less expensive for you to insure a corvette than it would an srt4.. the reason being, srt4's are bought by kids that dont know how to drive, and they get wrecked a lot. statistically 1 in 4 will have a claim (just a generic example, those numbers are made up) put that next to a new corvette, and even though the car is worth twice as much, its main buyer is a middle aged man that knows how to drive and doesnt street race. 1 in 20 will be involved in a claim. statistically the neon is has a greater likelyhood of costing the insurance company money, so its rate is higher. basically, if its fast and you can afford it, the insurance will kill you. not to say its cheap to insure a corvette at your age, but you get the idea.
get a liability only 1g, or better yet a turbo dodge.. most tds are rated extremely low, 1g dsms are still midrange and even liability will cost you.
i have a 12 second turbo 2.2 car, and i pay 350 every 6 months with a not so clean record because its a dodge omni. insurance doesnt care about it.
either go on your parents policy or waste way too much money is basically the 2 options you have if you want a new car
generally american cars are less expensive to insure than foreign cars are. saturns are the cheapest you can get as far as new car insurance goes
