Insurance [Merged 10-6]

I have read that having a DSM other than "Eclipse" will save you on insurance. The eclipse is listed as a sports car in the same bracket as a mustang or camaro. my mom pays more for her RS Eclipse than i pay for my GT Celica, Mustang GT or RS-T Laser. pretty wierd huh. also read on this forum that a guy pays less for his turbo Laser than for his Non-turbo eclipse. Just something to look into.;)

I'm starting to feel like my parents.

First up, we can't tell you what it'll be. Each insurance company has VASTLY, and I mean - VASTLY - different rates, you call them, spend 5minutes on the phone, and find out.

AWD + Turbo = EXPENSIVE.

And an AWD car will be more than any FWD car, due to cost of parts.

I'm 19, currently drive a Formula 6speed V8, and am expecting the GSX I buy to make my insurance go up. I'm going to call in the next couple of days to find out.

And whoever said that everything other than Eclipse have lower insurance rates; I'm willing to bet its due to the companies being "Domestic" - regardless of the Mitsubishi Eclipse also being built in America. It's just another way to rip you a new one - "we have to import the parts from Mitsubishi!"

I recommend if you are going to buy an eclipse GSX, to use a beater as well..a non-sports car.

I'll give you a reason why, under gieko I was paying $210 for just the Eagle Talon TSi AWD..I got booted thanks to two speed contests and two failure to yields..

So I went with All State, I added my Corolla as my primary driver..I now pay $190 a month for BOTH cars as to where I was paying $210 for the Talon alone on gieko.

Ok, first of all, it's not "whos name" the coverage is under, it's whether the car is insured.

16 w/turbo, I hope you have good job, good grades, and don't travel that much, cuz money will be tight.

Of course it's about who the name is under! If he was on his own policy then it would be a lot more, because its under HIS NAME. If he is on his parents policy, which he has to be, then it will be less if his parents have decent driving records. Also, AWD is less than FWD because of a safety factor in the AWD. Just like you pay less for when you're car has ABS and air bags.

Also, your insurance only drops like $100 at age 19 and 21. The huge drop doesn't come until you are 25.

I agreed with paranoid. If you have a beater, you can say that is your daily driver. That way your insurance will also be lower, because they think you won't be driving the eclipse as much.

i went from a 91 accord to my 95 GSX...im only listed as part time driver, but its only like 630/6 months for some reason, like 60 dollars more than the accord :thumb:

well theres to many little variables that need to be addressed, like the number of traffic volations you've committed, and have you been in an accident?, Average people w/ no or few tickets have insurance that varies around 130 for full coverage, but thats at my insurance company, yours could be different.

i pay 65$ a month for liability. I am 17 with one speeding ticket, 1 totaled car, and 1 30day liscense suspension.

I Pay $90 a month for me and my girl full coverage on a 95 talon tsi awd red and all the works...

$250 a month  No speeding tickets...no accidents...parent's plan...good student and driver discount.

State Farm hates me.

I have a quick, maybe stupid question. Can I get added onto my mom's insurance policy if I'm the sole owner of a car? Like if the car's title and everything is under my name, can my mom put insurance on the car even though it isn't officially under her name?

im under my parents insurance, my name is on the title along with my moms i believe, but im the owner of the car, it saves me a lot of money on insurance, im sure you can be on their insurance.

I bought my car, registered it in my name, and signed the title myself, and im under my parents insurance. And when I move out here this summer, I'm still going to be under their insurance. And my fiancee who lives with us currently is even under my parents insurance. So yes, I'm sure it can be done. I just dont know about your insurance companies rules. But ours *GEICO* will let us.

I'm about to sell my gst to a tuner from south carolina and i was wondering how much do you galant v-r4 guys pay for insurance? just so that i can get an easy estimate without having to actually reach over and pick up my phone.

depends on your age, past record ETC. Asking this Q is pointless because people have different records.

I pay $178/mo insurence Liability! on a 96 RS... I'm sure its a lot different for someone without 3 speeding, 2 wreckless and a totalled car.

Pick up the phone ya Bum

Agreed! I pay $275 a month and I'm 20 with the insurance being lowered twice already :D So yeah, depends on who you are really and what kind of driving record your parents have. Sad thing is, is that I don't even have any speeding tickets or points either:( and it is still that high.

I'm 20. I pay 260 a month for two cars. One 1998 GST spyder and one 1995 GSX. I have had two accidents and zero tickets. I pay FULL coverage. This just goes to show you that peoples insurance are always different.

I pay $106/monthly for full coverage with $100/$250 deductables on my gvr4 through State Farm. They also took part numbers and serial numbers off of my stereo stuff and any other electronics in the car like the AFC and gauges in case of theft. They have many pictures on file of my car also since I have so much money into it.

BTW, I'm 27 with a clean record.:)
