Although the weather was great this weekend and I got the exhaust finished up on Friday I was not very productive Saturday. I must be getting old because I could really feel the work I had done the day before slowing me down.
Steve came over to lend a hand. He finished the ECMlink installation, the wide band O2 installation, and he worked on a gauge cluster solution.
I worked on getting the L1R installed. First up was pulling the radiator. No sense nicking it up as the turbo comes in and out of the car. The front tie-member which runs parallel to the radiator support needed a few notches to allow the dump tube to fit better and to make it easier to RR the turbo/O2 housing as a single unit.
The radiator is a universal style Griffin and although it is smaller then the stock one it is twice as thick. We shouldn't have any problems keeping the car cool.
Before I installed the turbo it needed an inspection and the compressor wheel looks great and there isn't any shaft-play to be worried about. A skim coat of RTV is needed to seal the compressor cover and the bolts. I wasn't happy with how the lower IC pipes we looking so I set about building a new one. I build simple mild steel IC pipes that have proven to be durable and cheap. Once I had that finished up I turned my attention to the upper IC pipe which I had kind of mocked up the other day. I don't like how its sitting in there and it too is going to need a do over.
So that's how the day went. Fabbing up parts can be fun but it can also be very time consuming. We have re-set our goal to have the car moving by next weekend.
From there it's alignment and tuning. Then it goes back into the garage for duct work around the radiator and brake cooling ducts.
