I need some advice. I am planning to change the muffler to something that sounds better and hopefully gives me a few extra horsepower. Questions:

1) Is it possible to just remove the muffler and install one of the units you find on Ebay?
2) What inlet size muffler should I get for a 99 RS NT?

I'm a little confused about what exactly i need to get...cat, exhaust,muffler....where does one end and the other begin?

Thanks

yes you can take off the stock muffler and install any standalone muffler if :

you know how or know someone who knows how to weld. Any muffler shop will cut off the stock one and weld on a new one for you for $40 or less if you bring them the new muffler

Otherwise, you will have to get a cat-back system which is considerably more expensive than just a muffler plus labor to install, but it will make the car sound better and respond better to throttle inputs than just a muffler.

For N/A applications, generally 2.5" is way more than enough of a diameter to go with.

For any real noticable power, your gonna need catback, not just a muffler. But if you want aer just going for a more aggresive sound, just get a muffler.
