Guys,
Got a quick question.......
I removed all my exhaust manifold studs from my head and I'm now replacing them with new OEM studs. Should I use antisezie on the threads? I know the bottom middle stud needs some RTV on the threads as there's an oil passage there.
Also, do you just thread these in hand tight or do they need to be torque? I was going to use the double nut method to install the new studs.

Any advice?

im in the same boat as u .. i will be using antisezie stuff.. just incase u gotta take it off again.. :p

Hey I was wondering if you could help me out. I've never removed studs before and was wondering how you did it since there is nothing to grab and turn? And how do you install new ones? I have a Hanes manual back home and I'm almost positive there is a torque vavlue for them. I'm out of state right now so I can't look it up.

Can I get somebody to elaborate on the double nut method. Like I said I never did this before and would like to now as much as possible so I don't have to learn from my own mistakes.

Can somebody tell me the proper way to remove and install exhaust manifold studs. I have never done this before but I have a leak and need to change them.

stick two nuts on the stud snug them together, then back the stud out, use some liquid wrench or PB blaster to loosen the studs first (trust me, snaping a stud can ruin your day, or possibly week :p ) install the same way

simple :thumb:

I believe the 'double nut' method refers to putting 2 nuts on the stud, using the first one to stop the second one from moving, and using the second one to actually turn the stud out.

So these two studs that I need can they be found on the car or do I have to go to the hardware store and buy them? I was thinking about both of these methods before I just wanted to make sure but the vice grips don't sound to appealing to me I imagine the studs to be on there to tight, after all those years. Oh yeah thanks for the reply's, it was a big help.

Are there studs on the car that I can use(like the ones already on the exhaust manifold) or do I have to buy some from the store?

Hey whats up, i just got mine from SSStuds.com, they have good studs and are stainless steel, i got a valve cover kit and a manifold kit for 40 bucks with shipping it was not that bad and my valve cover looks alot cleaner, so shop around you might be able to take an old one off and take it to orchards and they can hook you up to, but go with ssstuds.com if you have the time to wait ,there shiping is also fast! well good luck and take your time and make sure you dont break them or your going to be crying! hahah  JK well good luck again and keep us updated with progress.
